The Biography of the Sword of Allah: “Khalid bin Walid” may Allah be pleased with him (The 62nd and Final Part)
Morals of Syedna Khalid, May Allah Be Pleased with Him, in the Battlefields
It is beneficial to utilize the valuable work of Allamah Shalabi, May Allah Have Mercy on Him, to open the discussion in this context. In his book, he mentions four important behaviors of Hazrat Khalid, which we will outline in order:
    1. Khalid loved truth because of its inherent truthfulness. However, sometimes on the battlefield, he would overlook some minor tasks and show tolerance for the benefit of Muslims, a concept known in Sharia as “wise tolerance,” which is recognized and approved by Sharia.
    2. He believed that commanders and government officials should have some freedom of action and authority. In his view, the Caliph’s order and obtaining permission from him are not always necessary. Rather, they may employ expediency and make decisions in situations where there is no time to seek permission from the Caliph.
    3. One of his beliefs was that there is no problem, and it is permissible to use the blessings of Allah Almighty and have a prosperous life as long as it is within the limits and circle of Sharia.
    4. He had a military temperament and personality, so there was some severity in his morals towards the enemy. Victory over the enemy was his goal, and in many places he ignored many things to achieve this goal.
This was a selection of the morals and war beliefs of Hazrat Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him, which he puts into practice.
The Death of Hazrat Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him
Imam Ibn Asaker Dameshqi, may Allah have mercy on him, writes in his history book: “Khalid moved from Syria to Makkah to perform Omrah. After performing Omrah, he passed through the city of Madinah and met Hazrat Omar (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he returned to Syria and stayed in the city of Homs until he died in that city in the year 21 AH”.
He adds: “Khalid withdrew in the area of Homs city. It was there that he dedicated his horse and weapons and remained there until he was buried there. His grave is located in Homs. The person who bathed Khalid and was present at his funeral informed me that when I looked at Khalid’s body, I did not see any healthy place that was not hurt.”
In short, most writers and historians agree that Syedna Khalid died in the 21st year of Hijri in the city of Homs and was buried there. He was more than sixty years old. When Hazrat Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him, passed away, the women of Bani Mughirah cried a lot and the companions of the Holy Prophet, may Allah be pleased with them, were saddened. Hazrat Omar Farooq, may Allah be pleased with him, stood over Khalid’s body and addressed him: “O Abu Suleiman (Khalid)!” May Allah’s mercy be upon you. Islam suffered an irreparable loss with your death. I wish there was a stone left in the rocks of Medina, you would be alive too. In fact, you always wanted the polytheists to be dishonorable and humiliated. Indeed, you lived with pride and happiness, you died respectfully and honorably, and what your Lord has prepared for you is better and more lasting”.
Indeed, the life and struggles of Hazrat Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him, are examples for us in all dimensions. We can have him a sample on the path of Jihad against the infidels, deal with the subjects, be vigilant in war, etc. and walk in his footsteps to get the happiness of this world and the hereafter.
Indeed, he was a divine sword that was used against anything, and he cut it. Allah Almighty cut the necks of hundreds of polytheists and infidels by means of this sword, and until the end, no one except the Lord could overcome him and bring him to martyrdom and put the sword of Allah in its sheath. Rather, he lived like a man and surrendered his life wholeheartedly only to Allah Almighty. He submitted to the right and joined his Lord. Peace and blessings be upon Syedna Muhammad and his family and companions.
