Hazrat Firouz Dilami “May Allah Be Pleased with Him” (Part 16)
Firouz Dilami’s meeting with the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the lessons of Hadith, and his death.
It was previously discussed the courage and greatness with which Hazrat Syedna Firouz Dilami (may Allah be pleased with him) was able to kill and behead the bearer of corruption and sedition (Aswad Ansi Kazab). He brought this news to the Holy Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings be upon him) and presented this precious news to him, earning a higher honor and dignity as a result. In some of the previously mentioned narrations, this good news and message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) coincided with his passing, and after hearing this message, he said goodbye to the mortal world. However, in other narrations, it is stated that he himself also went to the presence of the Holy Prophet and brought the cursed head with him. Nonetheless, this section will not discuss that narrative; rather, it will focus on the lessons of Hadith and his death.
Firouz Dilami and the Lessons of Hadith
As discussed in the opening sections regarding the science of Hadith and its universality, another one of the butterflies of the candle of mission in the sky of knowledge is Hazrat Firouz Dilami (may Allah be pleased with him). By hearing important Hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and conveying them to others, he was able to place himself among the ranks of the narrators of the Companions, ensuring that his name would be mentioned in the pages of Hadith books until the Day of Judgment and that prayers would be made for him.
At that time, there were no independent religious schools, and everyone began studying Hadith in mosques and deserts, passing it on to others. Therefore, it is not possible to specify where and when Hazrat Syedna Firouz Dilami (may Allah be pleased with him) taught; the only thing we know is that he transmitted this knowledge to others.
The teacher of Hazrat Syedna Firouz Dilami (may Allah be pleased with him) is the Messenger of Islam, and this chain is connected to Allah Almighty through Hazrat Gabriel Amin (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). However, regarding his students, it should be noted that, as far as it is mentioned in the books of Hadith, the names of four of his students are recorded, which I will now mention:
Imam Ibn Abd al-Barr al-Andalsi (may Allah have mercy on him) writes: “His two sons, Zahhak and Abdullah, narrated Hadith from him.”
Imam al-Jazri (may Allah have mercy on him) also writes in his book “Jami’ al-Usul fi Ahadith al-Rasul”: «روى عنه، ابناه الضحاك و عبداللّه و كثير بن مرة و عروة بن رُوَيْم. مات في خلافة عثمان بن عفان.» Translation: “It was narrated on his authority by his sons Al-Zahhak, Abdullah, Kathir bin Murrah, and Urwa bin Ruwaym. He died during the caliphate of Hazrat Usman bin Affan.”
