The Biography of the sword of Allah Hazrat “Khalid bin Walid, MAPH” (Part 43)
Hazrat Khalid’s Movement Towards the City of Ain al-Tamr
Ain al-Tamr is the name of a city near Anbar, whose ruler was a person named Mehran ibn Bahram Chobin. He had a large and powerful army. One of his faithful deputies was a man of Arab descent named Aqa ibn Abi Aqa, who was supported by the Arabs of that region.
When the news of Syedna Khalid ibn Walid’s arrival reached Mehran and Aqa, Aqa said, “Khalid and I are Arabs; I can fight him better because I am more familiar with the war techniques of the Arabs than you. So, leave us to deal with each other, and if I need your help, I will call.” Mehran, who was very pleased with this offer, accepted it and did not get involved in the battle.
Mehran’s deceptive plan
At that time, Iranians called Arabs by the name of dogs. Therefore, people close to Mehran said to him: “O Mehran! what are you doing? How do you leave the battlefield alone for that dog and watch from afar?”
Mehran addressed his entourage: “I have not said anything except your benefit and their loss. You yourself see that the enemies attacked you and killed all your commanders and chiefs and took the strength and power of the Iranians. I have placed these Arabs between me and the enemies. If they were able to win over Khalid, how much better! Their victory is actually your victory. If Khalid wins over them, they will certainly win after much fatigue and many casualties, and all of them will become helpless and weak. Then we will attack them with a fresh and strong force, and we will defeat them all.”
After hearing these justifications, the members of the parliament congratulated him and thanked him.
The beginning of the war and the defeat of Aqa against Khalid
As a shield for Iran, Aqa was placed in front of Syedna Khalid ibn Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, and Mehran also took refuge in faraway fortresses. Hazrat Syedna Khalid ibn Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, said to his soldiers: “Leave me alone with Aqa, I will attack him and destroy him.” Aqa was in the process of arranging his army when Syedna Khalid ibn Waleed, may Allah be pleased with him, made a strong attack on him and captured him. When he was captured, the ranks of his army broke up and they started to run away, the Muslims went after them, killed some and captured some.
As soon as the news of Aqa’s defeat reached Mehran Irani, he and his troops immediately left the forts and fled. The fugitives of the Aqa army took refuge in the fortresses.
They thought that Syedna Khalid Ibn Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, had nothing to do with them; But Hazrat Syedna Khalid Ibn Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, subjugated them all and forced them all to accept his conditions, and then he ordered to behead Aqa and throw her body on the public bridge, then he went and destroyed all the forts and He captured the fortresses of that land.
In this way, the city of Ain al-Tamr was also conquered and the face of the enemies of Islam was rubbed into the ground. It is really clear from this incident that Syeda Khalid ibn Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, was so eager to conquer Cities and spread the religion of Islam that he did not allow himself to rest even for a moment.
