Hazrat Ali, (A.S), in Medina (From migration to death of the Holy Prophet “PBUH”) “Part 6”
The bond of brotherhood
In the book “Al-Tabaqat al-Kubra” by Ibn Saad, it is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) established a bond of brotherhood between Ali bin Abi Talib and Sahl bin Hanif (may Allah be pleased with him).
Ibn Ishaq and other biographers have stated that the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, made a pact of brotherhood with Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. In this case, many hadiths have been narrated which are not reliable due to the weakness of some of the documents and the weakness of the texts of others. There is a narration in Sunan Tirmizi that refers to the pact of brotherhood between the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and Ali. Imam Tirmizi considered this hadith “Hasan”. Imam Ahmed bin Abdul Rahim, known as Shah Waliullah Dehlawi, has preferred the same narration in his two books, “Azaleh al-Khafa” and “Qura al-Ainin”.
Marriage of Ali (A.S) with Fatima (RA).
In the second year of Hijri, prophet (PBUH), married his daughter (Fatimah, MAPH) to Hazrat Ali (A.S), and said to Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with him: “I have married you to the most beloved members of my household.” Then he prayed for them and sprinkled drops of water on them. At that time, Fatimah’s age was fifteen years and five months and fifteen days, and Ali’s age was twenty-one years and five months.
Ata bin Sa’ib narrates from his father that Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The equipment of Fatimah, MAPH, that the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, had prepared for her, consisted of a tent, a pillow made of skin covered with the Azhar plant, a hand mill, a musket, and two earthenware jars.
While Ali and Fatima, may Allah be pleased with them, were extremely closed to the prophet, but their lives were very simple and full of hardships and hard work.
Prideful Nickname
The Holy Hazrat, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, nicknamed Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, Abu Tarab because of his friendship and caress. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, says: One day Ali, A.S, entered the room of Fatimah, and then, for some reason, he went out and slept in the mosque, at this time, the prophet (PBUH) came and went to Ali (A.S) said: He is in the mosque. The prophet (PBUH) went to the mosque and saw that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was lying down and the veil had fallen off him and his body was covered in dust. While cleaning the dirt from Ali’s back with his hand, that Imam said again: Sit down, Abu Tarab!
The battle of Badr, and Hazrat Ali (A.S) Role in it
The great battle of Badr took place in the month of Ramadan in the second year of Hijri. This war was a decisive battle that determined the fate of the Islamic Ummah and the call to Islam. It changed the course of history. When Otba bin Rabi’ah and his brother Shaiba and his son Waleed came to the field from the enemy’s army and called for a fight, then three of the Ansar youths prepared for the fight. The enemy fighters said: “You are equals of the group but choose our opponents from among our relatives and cousins and send them to fight with us.” The Messenger of Allah, PBUH, immediately turned to his army and selected Hamzah, Ali, and Ubaidah bin Al-Haris to fight with infidels. When these people came to the square, the disbelievers said: Yes, these are noble peers.
Obaydah, who was the oldest among them, fought with Otba, and Hamza fought with Shaiba and Ali fought with Waleed. Hamzah and Ali did not give their opponents time and in the first minutes they were sent to the hell, but Obaydah and Otba were still engaged in battle and inflicted severe blows on each other and were seriously injured. After killing their opponents, Hamza and Ali attacked Otba and killed him, and took Obaydah, who was injured, out of the field. Obaydah was martyred due to severe injuries.
In Tabaqat al-Kubra, according to the narration of Qatadah, it is mentioned that Hazrat Ali was the standard-bearer of the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, on the day of Badr. Hafiz bin Asaker says: The Messenger of Allah, PBUH, gave his sword “Zu’l-Fuqar” to Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, on the day of Badr, and after that he gave it to him forever.
Battle of Uhud
In the battle of Uhud, when the Muslims were surprised from behind. The enemy approached the Prophet, PBUH, and a piece of stone hit him, and he fell to the ground, and one of the four teeth in his upper jaw, on the right side, broke and left a gap on his lip, and his blessed head was also wounded, the Muslims did not know where the Prophet was. Ali bin Abi Talib, A.S, took his hand and Talha bin Ubaidullah, may Allah bless him, raised him to stand on his feet. Fatima, MAPH, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, was washing his wounds, and Ali bin Abi Talab was pouring water with his shield. When Fatima saw that the blood was not reduced with water, she took a piece of mat and set it on fire and put its ashes on the wounds, which stopped the bleeding.
