The invitation of Quraish and other tribes to Islam was continuing, and on the other hand, the opposition and enmity of Quraish was increasing. Finally, the leaders of Quraish held a meeting in “Dar al-Nadwa” and after negotiations, they finally agreed to choose a brave and noble young man from each tribe and all of them, like a single person, would attack the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). His blood would divide among the tribes and Abd Manaf’s children cannot fight with all of them. After agreeing to this decision, the meeting ended, and they dispersed.
Allah Almighty informed his prophet about this conspiracy, he (peace be upon him) ordered Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to sleep in his bed at night and put his special blanket over himself and said: “Be sure that no danger will face you”. It was not an easy and simple task, and someone who does not have strong faith and love of the Prophet, who does not have full confidence in his words and promises, and who has not prepared himself to sacrifice, would never done such a task, and in a context where dangers surround him, he was not able to sleeps, but Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was aware of the severity of the Quraish and the situation of suffocation and he knew that if the polytheists do not find the Prophet (peace be upon him) they will kill him to console themselves, but Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) Ignored all these facts, he slept calmly on the bed of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
The polytheists gathered in the house of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and were ready to carry out their evil plan. At this time, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took a handful of dust and left the house. While spreading dust on the heads of the polytheists, he recited Surah Yasin up to the verse: (وأغشینهم فهم لا یبصرون). Allah Almighty covered their eyes so that they did not see him. When morning came and Ali (RA) got up from the bed, the polytheists were ashamed and returned unsuccessful.
Ibn Sa’ad has quoted Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left for Medina to migrate, he told me to stay after him and return the trusts that were with him to their owners. Because he was known for his honesty and trustworthiness, and people entrusted their property to him, that’s why they called him Amin. I stayed in Makkah for three days and was always present among the people. After three days, I followed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) until I reached the neighborhood of Bani Amro bin Auf. Then I entered the house of Kulsum ibn al-Hadam, where the Prophet (peace be upon him) was staying.
Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to walk at night and hide somewhere during the day. When he reached Medina, his both legs were wounded. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Call Ali to me! They said: He cannot walk. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to him and hugged him and wept out of kindness. Then he spat in his hand and rubbed his feet. After that, Ali (RA) did not complain of leg pain until the time of martyrdom.
The arrival of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the middle of the month of Rabbi al-Awwal, until then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was still in the Quba.
