The Biography of the Sword of Allah “Khalid bin Walid”, MAPH, (Part 16)
Khalid the Horseman, of the Hawazin Battle
Definition of the Word (Hawazin)
Hawazin is the name of a large tribe of Mudar Arab tribes, which consists of several well-known Arab tribes. All of them are attributed to a person named (Hawazin bin Mansour bin Ikramah bin Khasfa bin Qais Aylan bin Elias bin Mudar).
Sheikh Ibrahim bin Ibrahim Qaribi says: «هوازن قبيلة من أعظم القبائل العربية وأكثرها خطرا، وهي من حيث القوة والعدد تضاهي قبائل غطفان.» (“Hawazin is one of the greatest and most dangerous Arab tribes. In terms of strength and numbers, it rivals the Ghatfan tribe.”)
The connection between the Hawazen campaign and the Hanin campaign
In fact, there is no difference between Hawazen’s campaign and Hanin’s campaign; Except that Hawazen was the name of a group of Arab tribes that rose up to fight against the Holy Prophet, (peace be upon him) and Hanin is the name of a valley that is located between the city of Makkah and the city of Taif, where the army of Islam and disbelief joined together. Therefore, sometimes that war is called Hanin’s Battle, based on the location, and sometimes it is called Hawazen’s Battle, based on the people.
In the eighth year of Hijri, the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH), came to the city of Makkah with his companions and conquered it without any killing or bloodshed.
This was very unfortunate and hard to accept for the infidels and polytheists around the city of Makkah, in general, and for the great tribe of Hawazen in particular. Because they had reached the belief and certainty that the day will surely come when Muhammad will enter our palaces with his companions and take down the royal crown from our heads and destroy our hot market of drunkenness and wine drinking.
Therefore, since then, several Arab clans gathered around and in the corners of Makkah and prepared for war with the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and prepared thousands of warriors and horsemen and hundreds of other equipment and wanted to start the attack.
When did Hanin’s invasion take place?
Exactly six days had passed since the holy month of Ramadan, when on Saturday, the 6th of Shawwal, in the 8th year of Hijri, this news reached the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him. They immediately marched towards the land of Hanin with the same army of 10,000 men that had gone to conquer Makkah and 2,000 more, and reached Hanin on Tuesday, the 10th of Shawwal.
