Introduction: In the previous part of the article, the definition of faith was stated from the point of view of the Morjaeh sect and from the point of view of “Ahl al-Sunnah and Al-Jama’ah.” In this part of the article, we want to discuss the believes of the Morjaeh about faith.
With these thoughts, they influenced the thought process of the society and led them to deviate from the path of the roadmap that the Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, had drawn for the happiness of this world and the hereafter. Therefore, in this section, the intellectual and theological beliefs of this sect are reviewed.
As mentioned before, the definition of faith from the point of view of this sect is that this sect believes that there is no need for actions; rather, they completely leave behind the dignity of deeds and say: Faith is only the affirmation of the heart.
The proofs of the separation of faith from action according to them:
In order to prove that faith and action are two separate categories, the petitioners have presented evidence, including:
The verse in Surah Nisa says: «إن الله لا یغفر أن یشرک به و یغفر ما دون ذلک لمن یشاء»; Translation: “Indeed, Allah does not forgive [that] who has associated partners with Him, and He forgives anyone except that.” This verse emphasizes the possibility of forgiving any sin except polytheism.
The next verse in Surah Zumar says: «قل یا عبادي الذین أسرفوا علی أنفسهم لا تقنطوا من رحمة الله إن الله یغفر الذنوب جمیعا إنه هو الغفور الرحیم»; Translation: “[O Prophet, from me] say: O servants who have wasted yourselves, don’t despair of Allah’s mercy. Verily, Allah forgives all sins, He is indeed Forgiving and Merciful,” which emphasizes that Allah forgives all sins.
The verses that consider the heart as the place of faith, such as the 22nd verse of Surah Al-Mujadalah, and also the narrations that avoid polytheism and have faith in someone who considers Allah’s pleasure sufficient.
عن ابیذر رضیاللهعنه قال النبی صلیاللهعلیهوسلم: یقول الله عزوجل: «ومن لقیني بقراب الأرض خطیئة لا یشرک به شیئا لقیته بمثلها مغفرة»; The Qudsi Hadith narrated by Almighty Allah: “O son of Adam! If you bring sin with you to the breadth of the earth, but if you didn’t associate anything with me when you met me, you will benefit from my forgiveness according to your sins.
And hadiths indicating the intercession and exoneration of some people who haven’t done any good deeds in their records.
Answer for this reason:
In response to the evidence presented by the Morjaeh, some scholars have clarified that the verses and traditions that this sect has argued for don’t convey the meaning they intended, and in fact, their understanding of these texts was wrong. According to these scholars, while the place of Faith is the heart, we shouldn’t forget that the effects of faith appear in the actions and deeds of a person. The accuracy of these verses and traditions shows that faith has signs that can only be understood through the actions of a person.
In fact, separating action from faith and considering it ineffective denies faith itself because faith is manifested only by action. Faith without action is nothing more than a claim and cannot lead to human happiness in this world or in the hereafter. As Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: «والعصر إن الإنسان لفی خسر إلا الذین آمنوا و عملوا الصالحات وتواصو بالحق وتواصوا بالصبر» Translation: “I swear by Asr (time) that humans are all at a loss except those who believe, have done righteous deeds, and enjoin each other to the truth and patience and perseverance.
