Gradual Suicide; Drinking Alcohol (Part One)
    Abstract:
Today, the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages occur frequently in various cultures and societies, even despite legal restrictions. However, in Islam, consuming alcoholic drinks is strictly prohibited. Allah explicitly forbids it in the Holy Qur’an and classifies it as a major sin. The Qur’an addresses this issue in verses 219 of Surah Al-Baqarah, 90 and 91 of Surah Al-Ma’idah, and 43 of Surah Al-Nisa. Moreover, Islamic Hadiths and narrations also strongly emphasize the prohibition of alcohol consumption.
Scientific studies indicate that alcohol has harmful effects on the functioning of various human body systems, including the digestive system, liver, muscles, central nervous system, eyes, and heart. Even children of alcoholic parents are often born with congenital defects. Ethanol, the main component of alcoholic beverages, has a potent weakening effect on the nervous system and brain, causing disorientation in time and place. Alcohol also disrupts mental health, leading to irrational and dangerous behaviors.
Despite the detrimental effects of alcohol on both the body and the mind, and despite the strict prohibitions in religious texts, its consumption still exists even in Islamic societies. Therefore, to control and reduce its use, it is essential to educate the public, raise awareness, and strengthen religious and moral beliefs within society. In fact, this is a kind of scientific miracle of the Qur’an and Islam: people must have faith in Allah and the true religion of Islam, and society should move toward practical adherence to God’s laws. Those who choose otherwise deceive themselves and cause harm to themselves and their community.
Among all social groups, youth are the most vulnerable to alcohol consumption due to identity crises, psychological issues stemming from social problems, a desire for adventure, pleasure-seeking, and novelty. Therefore, addressing this issue is of particular importance to society as a whole.
    Introduction:
Unfortunately, modern humans have forgotten their true place before Allah Almighty, even though Allah has created all creatures, the universe, and existence for humans’ benefit and service.
(«وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمْ مَا فِى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِى الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مِنْهُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ») translation: “And He subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth – all from Him. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought.” [Surah Al-Jathiya, 13](1)
However, it is clear that this world is not eternal; it is a place of trial, test, action, and the battlefield between truth and falsehood.
(«إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ زِينَةً لَهَا لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا») translation: “Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth as an adornment for it, that We may test them as to which of them is best in deeds.” [Surah Al-Kahf, 7](2)
The battle between truth and falsehood has existed since the creation of humanity and will continue until the last moments of this world. The enemy has sworn to mislead humans and drag them toward perdition and Hell, using all means of cunning and deception.
«قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَنْ شَمَائِلِهِمْ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ» translation: “He said: ‘Because You have misled me, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come at them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful.’” [Surah Al-A’raf, 16–17](3)
As observed, Satan’s party attacks the faith, beliefs, minds, souls, and hearts of Muslims from various fronts, leaving them with no moment of peace. They have realized that a “cold war” is far more effective than an open battlefield and use the following deceptive tools:
    1. a) Instilling doubt in Muslims regarding the essence of Islam and the followers of the Seal of the Prophets.
    2. b) Promoting immodesty, moral laxity, and the spread of entertainment such as music, dance, and provocative or vulgar songs.
    3. c) Distributing immoral books and magazines, pornographic films, encouraging fashion obsession, promoting addiction, and spreading alcohol, narcotics, opioids, toxic substances, and tobacco.
Alcohol is among the most widely consumed addictive substances worldwide. Today, alcohol consumption has become a major social problem in many societies, and the age of first use is declining, especially among adolescents and young people.
Enemies of Islam are aware that by implementing these policies, they can make the younger generation weak, immoral, apathetic, and irresponsible. Instead of heading to centers of learning, places of worship, schools, and universities to acquire skills and innovation, they will become adornments of corrupt places, wandering and homeless.
