Hazrat Firouz Dilami, May Allah Be Pleased with Him (Part 12)
The Moment of Firouz’s Attack on Aswad Anasi
Firouz went to the woman’s house again and confirmed her message. At night, all his companions entered the house she had mentioned and surrounded it. Then, they entered the room where Aswad Anasi was. They found a lamp hidden under a bowl. Firouz Dilami approached the lamp and found Aswad Anasi lying on a silk bed, while he was intoxicated, and his head was buried in his body. The woman sat by his side, waiting for the attack from Firouz and his friends.
When Firouz moved to attack him, Aswad awakened the power of the genie and his evil strength, speaking with his own tongue. However, still under the influence of alcohol, he addressed Firouz saying, “O Firouz! What are you doing with me?” Firouz was horrified by his words, realizing that if he backed down, both he and the woman would perish. Therefore, he pressed on, struck Aswad with powerful blows to his neck until he killed and destroyed him.
Afterward, Firouz stood up to tell his friends about Aswad’s death. However, in the dark of the night, the woman thought Firouz had not killed Aswad yet; so she grabbed the back of his shirt and asked, “You are leaving your Muharram. Where are you going?” Firouz replied, “I will go to my friends and bring them the good news of Aswad’s murder.”
The Last Breaths of Aswad and the Extinguishing of the Fire of Sedition
Following this, Firouz’s friends entered Aswad’s bedroom to decapitate him. At that moment, the genie stirred, causing Firouz’s friends to lose their composure upon witnessing this scene. They immediately sat on his back, and the sound of his last breaths echoed in the room. Hearing this, some guards rushed in and asked, “What happened?” The woman responded, “النبي يوحی إليه” (It means that now it is being revealed to the Prophet of Allah, thus this kind of voice is heard from him).
The Announcement of the Murder of Aswad and the Domination of Islam in Yemen
Afterward, Firouz, Qays, and Dazwieh discussed how to announce Aswad’s death and the victory of Islam. They all agreed that the next morning they would inform the people with the slogan of Islam so that they would gather.
In the morning, Qays Makshuh climbed the walls of Aswad Anasi’s fortress and called the people to gather. Everyone, including Muslims and non-Muslims, assembled. (Qays suggested to Weber Ibn Yahnash, the person through whom the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, delivered the letter of the Aswad’s Death to the Muslims of Yemen, to call the Azan.) Weber began to call the Azan, and when he reached the part about martyrdom, he declared: «أشهد أن محمداً رّسولالله وأن عبهلة كذاب» (I testify that Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the Messenger of Allah, and that Abhaleh Anasi is a great liar). He then threw the cursed head down from the top of the castle.
In this way, the false allies and mercenaries of Aswad Anasi were defeated and fled. However, the Muslims did not let them get away; they pursued them, lying in wait and capturing them along the way. Thus, Islam and the Muslims prevailed, and all the representatives of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, who were serving in Yemen, resumed their work.
Following this, they deliberated on who among them should be appointed as the ruler of the region. Ultimately, they all agreed to choose Syedna Ma’az, may Allah be pleased with him, as he had previously served as the governor of that territory on behalf of the Holy Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him. Consequently, after some time, he prayed again with the people.
These events exemplify the cleverness of Hazrat Syedna Firouz (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions, showcasing the methods and wisdom they employed to extinguish this great fire of sedition without open warfare, and to raise the great flag of Islam, welcoming the apostates back into the warm embrace of Islam.
