Mu’tazila (Part 45)
Introduction: After stating the principles of Khamsa Mu’tazila, which were the most important tenets and rules for them, we also addressed the perspectives of “Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah” regarding each of these principles, along with their reasons. In the following sections, we will discuss various issues that differ between Ahl al-Sunnah and Mu’tazila, including the measure of deeds, Pul-e-Sirat, and the punishment of the grave. In this part of the article, we aim to address the issue of the “measure and weight of deeds.”
The issue of the measure and weight of actions
The issue of the measure and weight of deeds is one of the most important issues on the Day of Judgment, this issue has been stated in numerous Quranic verses and prophetic hadiths, and scholars have written books on this issue.
Allamah Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy on him, says about the weight of actions: “The actions of a pious believer are weighed for this reason, so that his virtue and position are revealed, just as the actions of an infidel are weighed because of his disgrace and humiliation.” Therefore, the weight of actions plays an important and valuable role in declaring the position and rank of a Muslim and humiliating an infidel.
One of the different issues between “Ahl al-Sunnah wa Jama’ah” and Mu’tazila is the issue of the weight of actions. Each group has presented different reasons to prove or reject this issue.
The point of view of Ahl al-Sunnah wa Jama’ah
The scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah and Jama’ah agree that the actions of the servants will be weighed on the Day of Resurrection. If the Holy Qur’an has stated this issue in several places and countless hadiths indicate its proof.
Allameh Nasfi, may Allah have mercy on him, writes in his book of opinion about the weight of deeds: “The weight of deeds is right.”
Allameh Tahawi, may Allah have mercy on him, says: “We believe in the measure of faith; It is the measure by which the actions of believers, including good and evil, obedience and disobedience, are weighed.
