3.1. Satanism
The first question that appears in the mind of every reader upon hearing the Term “Satanism” is what this phenomenon is. Studies show that Satanism has different meanings and concepts that must be distinguished from each other.
3.1.1. Broader (general) concept
Satanism in this sense is following the whims of the soul and being deceived by the devil’s temptations. We read in the Holy Qur’an: «أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَا بَنِي آدَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ»”“Did I not command you, O children of Adam, not to worship Satan? Indeed, he is your clear enemy.” apparently meant worshiping the devil in this sense is following the devil and tending to sin, breaking the covenant and forgetting that the devil is the obvious enemy of humans. Allamah Fakhruddin Razi has pointed out the broader meaning of the concept of devil worship in the interpretation of this verse.
3.1.2. Broad concept
The use of Satanism in this concept, which is also called old Satanism, has come in the form of magic and sorcery. According to the reports of some theological sources, in periods of human history, especially in ancient times, sorcerers sought a relationship with Satan in order to conquer demonic forces. Traces of this kind of magic, in which they used to negotiate with the devil, can be found in the courts of emperors and kings of the past.
3.1.3. Special concept
Satanism in this sense includes two special groups who consider Satan as their deity or role model and perform evil actions and behavior in order to get closer to him.
A) Native Satanism
This sect, which lives in the Kurdish regions of Iraq and Iran and is also called Eastern Satanism, is called the Yazidis sect. Its history goes back to before the arrival of Islam in the land of Khorasan, which was influenced by Zoroastrianism and Manichaeism. According to them, the first creature that Allah created was Satan or the “Peacock Angel”. The nature of the peacock angel is considered the same as the nature of God, and after the peacock angel, they consider six other angels that are the link between God and mankind. Yazidis do not worship the peacock king as a demon or as an opponent and enemy of the Almighty God; rather, they believe that Satan is an angel who caused rebellion and then God was angry to him, but after going to hell, he wept there for 700 years until seven jars were filled with the tears of him and received God’s grace and forgiveness. And since the purpose of this writing is modern Satanism; therefore, the investigation of the Yazidi sect will not be discussed further.
B) Modern Satanism
What is explored and analyzed in this research is Western Satanism that has been formed in the modern era. The new Satanism, whose tendency is only towards sin and lust; A flow that cancels every law and obligation from outside the person, even in the name of Satan; A ritual in which Satan’s name has no other place than a symbol for rebellion, disobedience and selfishness.
