Allamah Nadwi’s Family and Ancestors at a Glance
Allamah Nadwi’s family is from the lineage of pious and good people and from Sadat “Hasani,” a spiritually and intellectually inclined family with very valuable characteristics. This family has been a flag bearer in every period and time due to its close relationship with the Noble Messenger of Islam, peace be upon him. They are known for their cultivation, reformation, self-improvement, and knowledge of jihad, struggle, sacrifice, and courage.
Hazrat Sayyid Nadwi is a pure and blessed descendant of Hazrat Hassan, may Allah be pleased with him, and for this reason, he calls himself “Hasni.”
Through Abdullah Al-Ashtar bin Muhammad Zul-Nafs al-Zakiyya, his lineage reaches Hazrat Hasan and then to the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
Two men of this family died in the land of India and Pakistan, one of them was Abdullah al-Ashtar, who is the descendant of Hazrat Abdullah Al-Muhz, the son of Hazrat Hasan Al-Musna, (MAPH), in the field of character and face, asceticism and piety. He was generous, like his honorable father, and because he was the elder of his family, he was called Sheikh al-Atra. He used to narrate hadiths from the Tabie’n, and according to his grace, perfection and sovereignty, he was respected by the Rashid Caliph Omar bin Abdul Aziz. At the beginning of the Abbasid period, he went against Mansour (the then Caliph), who was finally arrested and imprisoned and died there.
In the year 145 A.H., he came to the land of Sind out of fear of the vampire sword of the Abbasid caliph, Abu Jafar Mansour, in the same year, his father Muhammad Zulnafs al-Zakiyya, nicknamed Abu al-Qasim, was the Imam and Muqtada of the era; After the death of his father, he rebelled against Mansour, and the people of Hejaz, in general and in particular, accepted his imamate and sovereignty, Imam Malik and Imam Abu Hanifah, may Allah have mercy on him, also confirmed and supported him, and Madinah al-Munawrah came under his rule.
Seeing his popularity and acceptance, Mansur sent an army against him, and they met near Madinah al-Munawara, and as a result, Muhammad achieved the high degree of martyrdom. He was 35 years old at the time of martyrdom. And in Madinah, Mansour’s soldiers killed him, and then he followed Abdullah al-Ashtar, until Abdullah fought with the ruler of “Sand” and was martyred, and after that, his companions, out of fear of dishonoring his body, they threw it in the Indus River.
Another one of the men of this family is Hazrat Maulana Syed Ahmad Shahid,whose story is famous.
The twelfth ancestor of Moulana, a great scholar and great mujahid, is “Amir Seyyed Qutbuddin”, who was the nephew of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani, and in the year 607 AH and during the time of seduction, he was the refuge of the Muslims of Iraq, Iran and beyond the Nile. Sheikh Qutbuddin conquered AlahAbad, Kore Fort and Mankpur.
In the 11th century of Hijri, one of the elders of this family from “Kora and Mankpur” traveled outside the city of Rai Bareilly on the banks of the Indus River and settled down. The name of this great man was Shah Alamullah, who was one of the disciples of the great mentor Hazrat Syed Adam Banuri.; Although he intended to go to Mecca; However, according to the instructions of his sheikh, he chose this place and he, along with his relatives, built a mosque with his own hands, which he drew according to Mecca, and poured Zamzam water into the clay of its foundation. found, this mosque of Shah Alam Allah still remains in its place; Although a few years ago, due to the large population, some development was done. Shah Alamullah was also unmatched among the followers of Sunnah.
Another fighting, hardworking and outstanding man of this family is Hazrat Syed Ahmad bin Irfan, who did not stop his efforts for a moment in the path of exalting the word of truth, and with unparalleled courage and masculinity, he stood against the oppressors of time and the sultans of the time until at the age of 83, he drank the cup of martyrdom. With his martyrdom, the spirit of religious zeal and love for truth in India was awakened to some extent and started to move.
In this family, in 1914, a child was born who was deprived of his father’s affection and orphaned at the age of nine.
This child, whose name was Ali, and his nickname was Abul Hasan, became famous in the world under the name of Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi and created a new career. His grandfather is Hazrat Maulana Fakhruddin Khayali, who was considered a great writer and poet in his era, and his father, Maulana Syed Abdul Hai Hosni, is also a skilled writer and a pious scholar, whose precious book “Nuzha al-Khwatar” is particularly famous in the Tazkira of Rizal of India. Not long ago, it was printed and published in Beirut under the name “Al-Ilaam Bama Fi Tarikh Al-Hind Man Al-Ilaam”.
The beloved mother of Maulana Syed Abul Hasan was a benevolent woman who memorized the Qur’an and was a poet. One of Maulana’s older sisters named Bibi Umatullah translated the Tasnim “Riyaz al-Saheen” into Urdu.
