Arafah Day is one of the holiest days that occurs only once a year in the calendar. This day is a special and importance day, which has been mentioned with great importance and virtue in religious teachings. The day of Arafah is the day on which, at dawn, Muslim pilgrims travel from Mina to a nearby hill and plain called Mount Arafah and Dasht Arafah. It is a day when the Lord of the universe calls his servants to worship and obey him and spreads his tables of kindness and goodness for them, and on this day the cursed devil is humbler and more humiliated than other days.
Because on this day, the Lord of the worlds extends His grace and mercy and forgives many of His servants and brings them closer to Himself; Therefore, many traditions have introduced that day as a special day for forgiveness of sins; As it is stated in the Sharif Hadith: “Allah frees His servants from the fire of hell on the day of Arafah more than any other day…” So Muslims should start this blessed day by fasting, repenting and praying and saying Takbeer and Tahleel. make good and optimal use and subject themselves to the all-encompassing mercy of Allah and make the cursed devil despair; Just like Abraham and Ismail, peace be upon him, made him hopeless.
Naming mode
There are several sayings about the designation of Arafah, including:
1. After Ibrahim (peace be upon him) performed the rites of Hajj and was free from them, Gabriel (peace be upon him) addressed him at that stop and said: Did you understand it and did it well? He said: Yes, I (Arafto) got it.
2. When Adam and Eve left Paradise, they met again there and found each other.
3. Muslims (especially pilgrims) confess their sins and mistakes there and ask for forgiveness from the court of Allah the Most Merciful.
4. Allah Almighty shows his blessings and mercy to his servants there.
Virtue and importance of Arafah day
The day of Arafah is a very auspicious and auspicious day, the day when the Lord of the worlds extends His mercy and forgiveness to His servants. In fact, on this day, cries, supplications, prayers, and requests go to the sky, and in return, mercies and blessings descend. One of the features and privileges of this day is the forgiveness of sins and freedom from hell; As mentioned in the hadiths, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Allah frees His servants from Hellfire on the day of Arafah more than any other day.
On that day, as only He knows, the Merciful Allah will approach His servants, then He will be proud of the angels in their presence and will say out of pride and boasting: What do they want? (Unless they wish for something other than my pleasure and the forgiveness of their sins Also, it has been narrated from Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: “The verse (Day of Completion) was revealed on Friday and the day of Arafah, and both of them, Alhamdulillah, are Eid for us.”
The righteous predecessors had realized the importance of this day and how much the Lord extends His mercy on this day; As Fazil bin Ayyad was standing in Arafat square on the day of Arafat, in the evening of that day suddenly the crying and wailing of the people drew his attention and he said: “Do you think that if all these people go to someone and ask him for a single grain (for example, wheat) Will he reject their insignificant request? They said: No. He said: By Allah, forgiveness of sins is easier with Allah than giving a single grain of wheat.
Acts of the Day of Arafah
1. Prayer; One of the special actions in the decade of Dhul-Hijjah, especially on the day of Arafah, is to pray, cry and wail before the Lord of the Universe; As the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “The best prayer is the prayer on the Day of Arafah…” Also the righteous people of the Ummah said: “The Day of Arafah is the day of acceptance of prayers and wishes”; Therefore, the noble companions and Salaf Saleh paid much attention to the prayer of this day. Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, says about this day: “The day of Arafah is the day on which most people are saved from the fire of Hell.” So, on this day, make this supplication more: “O Allah, save me from your rivals in the Hellfire, and expand me from the halal sustenance, and spare me the immorality of the jinn and the people.”
2. Zikr and Takbeer; One of the other important actions that should be taken care of during the decade of Dhul-Hijjah, especially on the day of Arafah, is saying a lot of Takbeer, Zikr, and Tahleel. After saying the obligatory takbeer (tashreeq) – which starts from Fajr prayer on the morning of Arafah and continues until the evening of the 13th day – don’t forget to say takbeer and tahlil at other times as well; Because the day of Arafah is the day of obtaining reward, mercy and forgiveness from Allah, and these benefits can be obtained quickly through prayer, takbeer and tahlil. It is narrated from Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more popular than these ten days; So say Tahleel (Lala-il-il-Allah) and Takbeer (Allah-Akbar) and Tahmid (Al-Hamdulillah) in them. Therefore, on this day, it is better to say a lot of Takbeer and Tahleel and to continue to pray for us, our family members, our ancestors and our loved ones, Because the day of Arafah is the day of obtaining grace and blessings and accepting prayers.
3. Fasting on the Day of Arafah; One of the important practices of this holy day is fasting. Fasting on this day is an old and recommended thing and has many rewards. It is narrated from Abu Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “I count it [reward] with Allah Almighty in such a way that it is atonement for the sins of the previous year and the year after.” Also, Abu Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, says: “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah, and he said: It is an atonement for the sins of the past and future years.”
According to the above findings and narrations, the day of Arafah is a very precious and noble day and has a special place in the eyes of Allah.
