The Importance of Security in Islam (Part 22)
Methods of Achieving Security from the Islamic Perspective
    2) Unity
Unity and integrity are also important factors in creating and achieving security; when people are together, close to each other, and wish each other well, their society grows and progresses day by day. Challenges and crises can be resolved over time, which, in turn, brings about security among them. Conversely, if there is disagreement and division among people, the enemy can easily deceive a group and cause insecurity within society.
    3) Jihad
One of the best solutions for maintaining and creating security is Jihad, which involves preparing for war and deterring enemies. Whenever the enemies realize that the society they intend to harm has made the necessary preparations, they will be less likely to attack or encroach upon it.
Preparing for war and scaring the enemy is a security policy supported by Allah Almighty in the Quran: «وأعدوا لهم ما استطعتم من قوة ومن رباط الخيل ترهبون به عدو الله وعدوكم وآخرين من دونهم لا تعلمونهم الله يعلمهم» Translation: (“And prepare for them whatever you can of strength and steeds of war, that you may scare the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides them. You do not know them, but Allah knows them.”)
    4) Implementing Islamic Limits
Islam is a religion that aims to provide a safe and secure environment free from insecurity and worry. To achieve this, it incorporates encouraging factors that deter individuals from behaviors that disrupt social security and establishes punitive laws and regulations. Experience has shown that some individuals will cease committing sins only when faced with severe punishment.
Since the sin committed by one person often affects not only their individual circumstance but also impacts the community and consequently endangers social security, the implementation of these laws and regulations must be pursued seriously by the authorities of the Islamic government.
Establishing legal limits safeguards the foundation and life of the nation, protects it from collapse and decline, and deters criminals from engaging in inappropriate or unlawful acts through the enforcement of punishments. How beautifully Allah Almighty states in this regard: «ولکم في القصاص حیاة یا أولي الألباب لعلکم تتقون» Translation: (“O you who have understanding, there is life in retribution for you, that you may become pious.”)
One of the means of achieving security is through the implementation of legal limits and retribution, which Allah Almighty has made legitimate. Retribution deters aggressors and prevents them from harassment and harm and also serves as a method to protect individuals’ dignity from violations.
