The biography of Syedna Osman bin Affan, “MAPH” (6th and final part)
The achievements of Hazrat Osman bin Affan, (MAPH), and the collection of the Holy Quran:
After the battle of “Yamamah” and the martyrdom of many Quran memorizers, Umar bin Khattab (RA) suggested to Abu Bakr (RA) that the Quran should be collected. Abu Bakr was hesitant at first, but it did not take long before he agreed to the idea and collected the Quran. During the reign of Syedna Osman ibn Affan, (may Allah be pleased with him), and after the great conquests that took place during his reign, many dialects entered the language of the people, and differences in the way of recitations began to appear among the people.
Syedna Osman sent someone to Umm al-Mominin Hafsa, the daughter of Hazrat Umar, and asked for the copy of the Mushaf that she had with her. He then ordered four of the young people of the Companions to copy this Mushaf, and if they disagreed on something, to write it in the Quraysh language. He had seven copies written, one of which was sent to Makkah, one to Syria, one to Kufa, one to Basra, one to Yemen, and one to Medina. He also ordered that any copy that differed from these versions be burned.
    The date of his death:
The last moment came, and the rioters started to ignite the fire in front of Syedna Osman’s house. Companions and young Muslims moved towards Hazrat Osman’s house; But Hazrat Osman, (may Allah be pleased with him), shouted at them, leave them alone, I swear to you that you will return to your homes, leaving only Hasan bin Ali and Abdullah bin Umar.
The rioters tried their best to enter Hazrat Osman’s house. His wife asked him to bare her head, maybe they will see her bare head and stop entering; But Osman forbade her from doing this; Then the rioters attacked Osman, (may Allah be pleased with him); He was reciting the Qur’an and was also fasting, and he recited this statement of Allah the Almighty from the Qur’an: «فسیکفیکهم الله و هو السمیع العلیم» An ignorant one of the rioters entered and struck Osman with his sword. He cut off his hand, Hazrat Osman, (may Allah be pleased with him), said: Allahu Akbar, you know that this hand was writing revelations for the Messenger of Allah, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). Then his wife Banu Naela came and stretched out her hand to defend him, but her fingers were cut off; Then another person came and hit him on the shoulder with an iron, Hazrat Osman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Thank you, Allah, then he closed the Quran, and the Quran was stained with Osman’s blood. Hazrat Osman, (may Allah be pleased with him, said): “O Highest (یا ذوالجلال والاکرام), I take you as a witness that I have been patient as the Prophet had bequeathed me to it. Finally, Osman, (may Allah be pleased with him), was martyred on Friday 18th of Zul-Hijja and was buried in the “Baqi” cemetery.
Ali bin- AbuTalib stood by his grave and cried and said: I ask Allah that I and Osman, will be among those about whom Allah, the (Blessed and Exalted), says: «و نزعنا ما فی صدورهم من غل اِخوانا سرر متقابلین» Translation: “And I will remove what is in their chests of hatred and carnal desires, they are sitting on thrones facing each other in brotherhood.
“In conclusion Syedna Osman bin Affan, (may Allah be pleased with him), was one of the true companions and representatives of the Prophet, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). His continuous communication and sincere love and affection for the beloved Prophet, (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), were to such an extent that the history of human civilization and society is incapable of presenting such an example.
The fact is that fundamental and profound changes had taken place in his existence in every respect In a way that proved well in the most difficult situations and political and military developments after the Holy Prophet, (peace and blessings be upon him), the seed planted by the beautiful teachings of the beloved Prophet of Islam in the most suitable and prepared land has produced a good harvest, and this is due to the existence of personalities ,He was a resourceful and competent manager among them.
It is true that the noble companions were the guardians and trustees of the Holy Books and the pure life of the beloved Messenger of Islam, to the extent that they drank the cup of martyrdom oppressed in their homes and did not allow the smallest flaw to be created in the field of Islam’s religion.
Despite the fact that they were one of the ten persons that were given the good news of heaven (عشره مبشره), they did valuable services for the Islamic Ummah in their lifetime, such as collecting the Holy Quran. He did not value even his own life and sacrificed it for the sake of Allah and the religion of the Prophet of Islam.
