The Divine Education Model in the Family of the Prophet (part 74)
Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) and His Family
Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) was the son of the brother of Prophet Ibrahim Al-Khalil (RA) and was among his closest relatives. When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) called people to monotheism and the worship of the One God, Lut (peace be upon him) was among the first to believe in him and accept his call.
He migrated alongside his uncle from the land of Iraq to the land of Sham (Greater Syria) for the sake of faith and belief. This land is recognized as blessed and sacred by Allah the Almighty, as mentioned in the Noble Qur’an.
Translation: And We delivered him and Lut to the land which We had blessed for all people. [1]
Translation: So Lut believed in him and said: Indeed, I am migrating to my Lord. Indeed, He is the Almighty, the All-Wise. [2]
Thus, Prophet Lut (peace be upon him), through faith and migration in the path of Allah, began a new life in the blessed land of Sham.
After arriving there, Allah sent him as a prophet to the people of the city of Sodom and its surrounding regions. He called his people to worship Allah alone and forbade them from their immoral and sinful actions, including engaging in relations with men, committing highway robbery, and performing indecent acts in their gatherings.
Translation: And (mention) Lut when he said to his people: Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one among the worlds has preceded you in. Do you indeed approach men, cut off the road, and commit evil in your gatherings? [3]
However, instead of accepting the truth, his people denied him and mockingly said: «فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ» Translation: Their only response was: Bring us the punishment of Allah if you are truthful. [4]
At that point, Lut (peace be upon him) sought help from Allah and said: «رَبِّ انصُرْنِي عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْمُفْسِدِينَ» Translation: My Lord, grant me victory over the corrupt people. [5]
Allah accepted his supplication and sent angels to assist him.
Translation: O Lut! Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you. So, travel with your family during a portion of the night and let none of you look back except your wife; indeed, what will strike them will also strike her. Indeed, their appointed time is the morning—is not the morning near? [6]
When Allah’s command came, the towns were overturned, and stones of hardened clay rained upon them marked by your Lord. And such punishment is not far from the wrongdoers.
In this event, the wife of Lut (peace be upon him) was not saved due to her disbelief and her siding with her people. Translation: Allah sets forth an example for the disbelievers: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut. They were under two righteous servants of Ours, but they betrayed them. So, their husbands could not avail them against Allah at all, and it was said: Enter the Fire with those who enter. [7]
