The Quran: A Miracle Beyond Time- A Study of Its Miraculous Nature (part 100)
The Impact of Human Emotions on the Soul in Light of the Miracle of the Noble Qur’an
Psychological Pressure and the Role of Faith in Human Survival
One of the most remarkable findings in social psychology is that during Second World War, in some countries, the number of those who died due to psychological stress was several times higher than those killed directly on the battlefield. This demonstrates that a soul deprived of faith may collapse internally even if the body appears physically sound.
The Holy Qur’an addresses this reality by emphasizing divine decree and prior knowledge: “مَآ أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٖ فِی ٱلأَرضِ وَلَا فِیٓ أَنفُسِكُم إِلَّا فِی كِتَٰبٖ مِّن قَبلِ أَن نَّبرَأَهَآ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ یسِیر” [1] Translation: “No disaster strikes upon the earth or within yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being—indeed that, for Allah (SWT), is easy.”
This understanding protects a believer from emotional collapse.
The Color Green and Its Psychological Effect
The Holy Qur’an repeatedly mentions the color green in its description of Paradise: “مُتَّكِـِٔینَ عَلَىٰ رَفرَفٍ خُضرٖ وَعَبقَرِی حِسَانٖ” [2] Translation: “Reclining upon green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.”
“عَٰلِیهُم ثِیَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضرٞ وَإِستَبرَق” [3] Translation: “Upon them will be garments of fine green silk and brocade.”
“وَیلبَسُونَ ثِیَابًا خُضرٗا مِّن سُندُسٖ وَإِستَبرَقٖ” [4] Translation: “And they will wear green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade.”
Translation: Modern psychology confirms that green promotes calmness and psychological balance.
Anger and Physical Health
Medical research has shown that severe anger may cause:
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Greater risk of heart attack and stroke
  • Elevated blood sugar
  • Arterial hardening
  • Digestive disorders
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “لا تغضب” [5] Translation: “Do not become angry.”
Tawhid and Inner Stability
The Qur’an teaches reliance upon Allah as the foundation of emotional balance.
Prophet Ibrahim (MABH) said: “وَإِذَا مَرِضتُ فَهُوَ یشفِینِ” [6] Translation: “And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.”
This verse shows spiritual surrender and trust in divine healing.
Conclusion
The Noble Qur’an presents profound principles for emotional balance and psychological health long before the emergence of modern psychology. Its guidance encompasses faith, emotional regulation, and spiritual awareness. This harmony between revelation and contemporary knowledge has been discussed in works on scientific aspects of the Qur’an [7].
