Resurrection After Death (part 5)
Resurrection from the Qur’anic Perspective (Continued)
Allah Almighty, regarding the reviving of the dead earth, says: “وَاللَّهُ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ الرِّيَاحَ فَتُثِيرُ سَحَابًا فَسُقْنَاهُ إِلَىٰ بَلَدٍ مَّيِّتٍ فَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِ الْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ النُّشُورُ” [1] Translation: “It is Allah who sends the winds, which raise clouds; then We drive them to a dead land and revive the earth thereby after its death. Thus, will be the Resurrection.”
Allah the Exalted says: “كَمَا بَدَأَكُمْ تَعُودُونَ” [2] Translation: “Just as He originated you, so shall you return.”
Allah, Glorified and Exalted, says: “قَدْ خَسِرَ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِلِقَاءِ اللَّهِ وَمَا كَانُوا مُهْتَدِينَ” [3] Translation: “Those who denied the meeting with Allah have certainly lost, and they were not guided.”
The Owner of life and death says: “كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ” [4] Translation: “Every soul shall taste death, then to Us you will be returned.”
In the Noble Qur’an it is stated: “إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ” [5] Translation: “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”
The return is to Allah Almighty. He says: “إِلَى اللَّهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعًا ۖ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقًّا” [6] Translation: “To Allah is the return of you all; the promise of Allah is true.”
Who will transform the earth? Allah Almighty says: “يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ وَبَرَزُوا لِلَّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ” [7] Translation: “On the Day when the earth will be changed to another earth, and the heavens as well, and they will appear before Allah, the One, the All-Subduing.”
Allah the Exalted says: “يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ الصَّيْحَةَ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخُرُوجِ” [8] Translation: “On the Day they hear the Blast in truth—that is the Day of (emergence from the graves).”
The Lord of the worlds says: “يَسْأَلُهُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ * فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ” [9] Translation: “He asks, ‘When is the Day of Resurrection?’ So, when the eyesight is dazzled.”
Allah Almighty is fully aware of your deeds. The Lord of the worlds says: “وَقُلِ اعْمَلُوا فَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۖ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ” [10] Translation: “Say: ‘Do deeds, for Allah will see your deeds, and so will His Messenger and the believers. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will inform you of what you used to do.’”
All these verses indicate the importance and inevitability of the Day of Resurrection and the revival of human beings after death. Ma‘ād (the Hereafter) encompasses all stages of humanity’s return to life after death and accountability for deeds. It has clear signs and is free from any doubt or uncertainty. Belief in the Hereafter is one of the most fundamental doctrinal matters according to Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah.
Belief in the Last Day and resurrection after death is among the pillars of faith. Whoever denies resurrection and revival has, in fact, denied Allah and the Qur’an.
Allah Almighty says in a Hadith Qudsi: The son of Adam denied Me, though he had no right to do so; and he insulted Me, though he had no right to do so. As for his denial of Me, it is his saying: ‘He will not resurrect me as He created me the first time,’ whereas the first creation was no easier for Me than resurrecting him. And as for his insult of Me, it is his saying: ‘Allah has taken a son,’ while I am One, Self-Sufficient; I neither beget nor am begotten, and there is none comparable to Me.” [11]
Belief in resurrection entails believing that Allah will bring people back to life after their death, and it also includes belief in reckoning, recompense, Paradise, and Hellfire. After the blowing of the Trumpet and the revival of the dead, Allah Almighty will command that people from all parts of the earth be gathered in one place.
Numerous rational and textual proofs establish resurrection after death, which will be discussed in greater detail in the upcoming sections of this study (in sha’ Allah). Thus, the proof has been fully established against those who deny resurrection and the Hereafter. [12]
