Resurrection After Death (part 4)
Resurrection from the Qur’anic Perspective (Continued)
The Lord of the worlds says in other verses: “وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُمْ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ” [1] Translation: “And the Trumpet will be blown; then suddenly they will hasten forth from their graves toward their Lord.”
Elsewhere, the Exalted says: “وَأَنَّ السَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَن فِي الْقُبُورِ” [2] Translation: “And that the Hour is surely coming—there is no doubt about it—and that Allah will raise up those who are in the graves.”
In other verses He beautifully states: “يَوْمَ نَطْوِي السَّمَاءَ كَطَيِّ السِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِ كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُّعِيدُهُ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ” [3] Translation: “On the Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a scroll for writings. Just as We began the first creation, we shall repeat it—this is a promise binding upon Us; indeed, we are to fulfill it.”
The Lord of the worlds says in another place of His pure Word: “ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِيهِ أُخْرَىٰ فَإِذَا هُمْ قِيَامٌ يَنظُرُونَ” [4] Translation: “Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.”
Allah the Exalted says: “فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ، وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ” [5] Translation: “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says elsewhere: “قُلْ يَتَوَفَّاكُم مَّلَكُ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِي وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُونَ” [6] Translation: “Say: The Angel of Death who has been entrusted with you will take your souls; then to your Lord you will be returned.”
The Creator of the Pen and the Tablet say regarding the Day of Recompense: “الْيَوْمَ تُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ” [7] Translation: “Today every soul will be recompensed for what it earned.”
Allah the Exalted says concerning the claim of the disbelievers about this Day: “زَعَمَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَن لَّن يُبْعَثُوا قُلْ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّي لَتُبْعَثُنَّ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلْتُمْ وَذَٰلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ” [8] Translation: “Those who disbelieve claim that they will never be resurrected. Say: Yes indeed, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will be informed of what you did—and that is easy for Allah.”
[9] Translation: “Does he not know that when what is in the graves is scattered, and what is in the breasts is laid bare, their Lord that Day will surely be fully aware of them?”
The Lord of the worlds says: “وَإِذَا الْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ، عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ” [10] Translation: “And when the graves are overturned, every soul will know what it has sent ahead and what it left behind.”
The Noble Qur’an relates the words of the polytheists and responds to them: “وَقَالُوا أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا وَرُفَاتًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا ۝ قُلْ كُونُوا حِجَارَةً أَوْ حَدِيدًا ۝ أَوْ خَلْقًا مِّمَّا يَكْبُرُ فِي صُدُورِكُمْ ۝ فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَن يُعِيدُنَا ۝ قُلِ الَّذِي فَطَرَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ” [11] Translation: “They say: When we have become bones and dust, will we indeed be resurrected as a new creation? Say: Be stones or iron, or any creation that seems greater in your hearts; they will say, ‘Who will bring us back?’ Say: The One who created you the first time.”
Allah the Exalted says: “أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ ۝ بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ” [12] Translation: “Does man think that We will not assemble his bones? Yes indeed, We are able even to restore his very fingertips.”
The Lord of the worlds says: “أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ” [13] Translation: “Did you think that We created you in vain and that you would not be returned to Us?”
Allah, Exalted and Glorious, says: “ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنَّهُ يُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ وَأَنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ” [14] Translation: “That is because Allah is the Truth, He gives life to the dead, and He is powerful over all things.”
Allah the Exalted says: “وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ إِنَّهُ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ” [15] Translation: “And indeed your Lord will surely gather them all; truly, He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.”
