A Recommendation for Sisters Regarding Hijab
A brief and even superficial look at our society—when compared with the standards and values of Islam—clearly reveals a deeply worrying and painful reality. When we observe the behavior and public appearance of many women in the community, we are reminded of the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).
«صنفان من أهل النار لم أرهما…نساء كاسيات عاريات مميلات مائلات رؤسهن كأسنمة البخت المائلة لا يدخلن الجنة ولا يجدن ريحها وإن ريحها ليوجد من مسيرة كذا وكذا» (مسلم/2128) Translation: Two categories of the people of Hell that I have not seen (in my time): women who are clothed yet naked, who incline towards men and attract their gaze; their heads are like the humps of camels tilted to one side. They will not enter Paradise, nor even smell its fragrance, though its fragrance can be sensed from a great distance.
We clearly witness how precisely this Hadith of the Prophet has manifested today. Is it not a shame for us—the Ummah of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah the one who, in his supplications, said “My Ummah, my Ummah,” seeking forgiveness for his people while his blessed eyes overflowed with tears until Allah had mercy on his Ummah, including you and me?
And elsewhere he said: «لكل نبي دعوة مستجابة يدعو بها وأريد أن أختبئ دعوتي شفاعة لأمتي في الآخرة» (بخاری/5945) Translation: Every prophet has an answered supplication, which he used during his lifetime. But I have reserved mine as intercession for my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
Then how will we dare to look into his blessed eyes on the Day of Judgment while our women—our sisters and daughters—display themselves in the streets before strange men in the most inappropriate manner?
O women of the Islamic Ummah! Awaken from the sleep of heedlessness. Your role models are not singers and actors. Your true example is she who held fast to faith and ignored the misleading paths of this world—seeking instead the eternal Paradise of Allah, “whose width is that of the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous”: [عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالأَرْضُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ] (آل عمران: 133) Translation: Its width is that of the heavens and the earth; it has been prepared for the righteous.
Your model is Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh. When she believed, she was tortured severely and crucified, yet she never abandoned her faith. In her final moments she supplicated: [رَبِّ ابْنِ لِي عِندَكَ بَيْتاً فِي الْجَنَّةِ] (تحريم:11) Translation: My Lord, build for me a house near You in Paradise.
Another example for you is the woman who served Pharaoh’s daughter. While combing her hair, the comb fell from her hand and she said “Bismillah.” When the girl asked whether she meant her father, she replied: “My Lord and your father’s Lord is Allah.” When Pharaoh learned of this, he prepared a cauldron of molten copper and demanded she abandon her faith. Yet she stood firm and was cast into the cauldron with her children, choosing the eternal Paradise over the worthless worldly life.
And recall when the Prophet (PBUH) was given a choice between remaining in this world or departing, he said: «بل الرفيق الأعلى» (مسند أحمد:26389) Translation: Rather, I choose the Highest Companion (Allah).
Your model, O Muslim women, is Sumayyah, the mother of Ammar, who—after learning the words “One, one”—stood firm until she became the first female martyr in Islam, purchasing Paradise and saving herself from Hellfire.
About Hell, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: «يؤتى بأنعم أهل الدنيا من أهل النار يوم القيامة فيصبغ في النار صبغة ثم يقال يا ابن آدم هل رأيت خيرا قط ؟ هل مر بك نعيم قط ؟ فيقول لا والله» (مسلم:2807) Translation: A person who enjoyed the greatest pleasures in the world, yet is among the people of Hell, will be brought on the Day of Resurrection. He will be dipped into the Fire once, then asked: “O son of Adam, have you ever experienced any good? Have you ever enjoyed any blessing?” He will say, “No, by Allah.”
And he said: «ولو ان قطرة من الزقوم قطرت لأمرت على أهل الأرض عيشهم فكيف من ليس لهم طعام الا الزقو» (مسند احمد:2735) Translation: If a drop of the tree of Zaqqum were to fall upon the earth, it would ruin the livelihood of all its inhabitants. So how will it be for one whose food is Zaqqum?
Hell is the anger of Allah, brought forth on the Day of Judgment. The Messenger of Allah said: «يؤتى بجهنم يومئذ لها سبعون ألف زمام مع كل زمام سبعون ألف ملك يجرونها» (مسلم:2842) Translation: Hell will be brought forth on that Day with seventy thousand reins, and with every rein are seventy thousand angels pulling it.
And Allah says: [تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ] (الملك:8) Translation: It almost bursts with rage.
If we cannot bear the heat of a matchstick, then how will we tolerate a Fire whose intensity is seventy times greater than any fire of this world? The Prophet (PBUH) said: «ناركم هذه التي يوقد ابن آدم جزء من سبعين جزءا من حر جهنم» (مسلم:2843) Translation: The fire which the sons of Adam ignite is only one part of seventy parts of Hellfire’s heat.
Women who panic at the sight of a small mouse—how will they protect themselves from the blazing Hellfire if they abandon Islamic modesty and dress in revealing, thin, and tight clothing?
Consider those who spend their lives seeking the pleasure of Satan—frequenting beauty salons, exposing themselves before strange men—only to realize at the end that all of it passed in an instant, leaving them nothing but the anger of Allah.
What answer will those women—who dress in tight and revealing clothing—give to the Lord of the heavens and the earth if death strikes them suddenly?
And do women who pluck and thin their eyebrows do not know that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: «لعن الله الواشمات والمستوشمات والنامصات والمتنمصات والمتفلجات للحسن المغيرات خلق الله» (مسلم:2125) Translation: Allah has cursed the tattooers, those who get tattooed, the Plucker’s of eyebrows, those who have their eyebrows plucked, and those who file their teeth for beauty—those who alter the creation of Allah.
Do you think the curse of the master of humanity, Muhammad (PBUH) is a small matter? By Allah, it will overtake them, depriving them of happiness in both worlds.
Fear Allah, for no one succeeds by following their desires or Satan. True salvation lies only in following Islam and the Sunnah of Muhammad (PBUH) whose end is the pleasure of the Most Merciful and eternal happiness in the Hereafter. But following desires leads to the anger of the Almighty, humiliation, misery in this life and the next, and the painful punishment of the Lord of all worlds.
At the end, here is a true incident that should serve as a lesson. In a nearby city, an elderly God-fearing taxi driver once picked up a girl dressed very inappropriately. He was saddened, thinking that if she died in such a state, she would be fuel for Hellfire. He told her: My daughter, fear Allah and His burning Fire.
She took out her phone and mockingly said: “Here, call your God and tell Him to reserve a place for me in Hell.” (We seek refuge in Allah.)
Tears welled in the old man’s eyes, and he remained silent. When he stopped the car, she did not move. Turning around, he realized she had died. At the hospital, they attempted to remove the phone from her hand, but it would not come out. She was buried with the phone still in her hand.
Allah knows best how she will stand before Him.
Know that Allah does not grant everyone the opportunity to repent. so, return to Him while you still have time, for when death arrives, it is neither delayed nor advanced even for a moment: [فَإِذَا جَاء أَجَلُهُمْ لاَ يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلاَ يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ] (اعراف:34) Translation: When their appointed time comes, they cannot delay it for an hour, nor can they bring it forward.
