One of the Advices of the Prophet (PBUH) for Women (Part three)
    1. Obedience to the Husband
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It is not permissible for a woman to fast voluntarily while her husband is present except with his permission. Nor is it permissible for her to allow anyone into her husband’s house except with his permission.”
It is also narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that if a husband calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, causing him to spend the night angry with her, the angels will curse her until morning.
My sister! Regarding voluntary fasts and prayers, obeying the husband is obligatory, and the wife should perform them only with his permission. But as for the obligatory acts such as the five daily prayers and the fast of Ramadan, no permission from the husband is needed, and they cannot be abandoned for his sake, because there is no obedience to any created being when it involves disobedience to Allah the Almighty. The second hadith points out that obeying the husband in marital intimacy and fulfilling his lawful rights is obligatory upon you, unless you have a valid excuse (such as illness or menstruation). These matters are binding, so that you do not fall under the curse of the angels or the wrath of Allah the Almighty.
    1. Preferring Your Daughter Over Yourself
It is narrated from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): “A needy woman came to me carrying two of her daughters. I gave her three dates. She gave each of her daughters a date, and then she lifted the third one to her mouth to eat it. But her daughters asked her for it, so she split it into two halves and gave each of them a piece. I was amazed at what she did and told the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. He said: ‘Indeed, Allah has made Paradise obligatory for her because of her daughters, or He has freed her from the Fire because of her daughters.’”
    1. The Reward of Saying (إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ) Translation: Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we shall return.
It is narrated from Umm Salmah (may Allah be pleased with her): “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘No Muslim is afflicted with a calamity and then says: “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and grant me better in its place”—except that Allah grants him something better in return.’”
When my husband Abu Salmah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, I thought to myself: “Who could possibly be better than Abu Salmah? He was the first household to migrate to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” Still, I recited the supplication the Messenger of Allah had taught me, and Allah granted me someone better than Abu Salmah—namely, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself.
    1. Patience in Trials and Acceptance of Divine Decree
Ata ibn Abi Rabah narrated: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: “Shall I show you a woman from among the people of Paradise?” I replied: “Yes, show me.” He said: “This black woman is among the people of Paradise. She came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I suffer from epilepsy, and when it seizes me, my body becomes exposed. Pray to Allah for me.’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘If you wish, you may be patient, and Paradise will be yours; or if you wish, I will pray to Allah to cure you.’ She replied: ‘I will be patient, but when the seizure comes, my clothes fall off and I become uncovered. So pray to Allah that I will not be exposed.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for her accordingly.”
    1. Illnesses Wash Away Sins
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited a woman named Umm Sa’ib—or Umm Musayyib—and said to her: “What is the matter with you that you are shivering?” She replied: “I have a fever. May Allah not bless it.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not revile fever, for indeed it removes the sins of the children of Adam just as a furnace removes impurities from iron.”
Umm Alaa said: “When I became ill, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited me and said: ‘Rejoice, O Umm Alaa, for indeed illness removes the sins of a Muslim just as fire removes impurities from silver.’”
