The Quran; A Miracle Beyond Time-A Study of Its Miraculous Nature (Part 26)
Human Fingerprints; Registration, Identity, and Divine Signature
Fingerprints, as one of the wonders of creation, not only reveal the unique identity of each human being; but also are a sign of the precise order and wisdom of Allah in creation. This unique mark is important in both contemporary and criminal sciences, and has a special place in religious and philosophical beliefs. This section examines the scientific, religious, and philosophical aspects of fingerprints, how they are formed, and their applications, and explains their role in the system of creation and resurrection.
The Nature and Structure of Fingerprints
Fingerprints consist of complex and unique patterns of lines, arcs, rings, and tiny branches on the tips of human fingers. These patterns are formed in the area of the skin layer called the “epidermal layer”.
Main Characteristics: Fingerprint lines include “twists,” “curves,” “breaks,” and “knots,” each of which has its own characteristics.
Fingerprint diversity: Each person has their own unique pattern, and even identical twins (from the same ovum) have different fingerprints.
The process of fingerprint formation in the womb
Fingerprints are formed in the sixth month of pregnancy, when the fetus is developing in the mother’s womb, a combination of genetic and environmental factors such as amniotic fluid pressure, the way the skin develops, and fetal movement make each fingerprint unique.
Contributing factors: Genetics, mechanical pressures, and the irregular process of skin development cause the diversity of fingerprint patterns.
Fingerprint stability: This pattern is maintained throughout life, even if the skin is damaged or surgery is performed.
Fingerprint uniqueness; from a scientific perspective
Research has shown that each person’s fingerprint has hundreds of identifiable features. Scientists have discovered that if even 12 out of 100 fingerprints match, this means that the fingerprints are identical.
Random probability of a fingerprint match: There is only one in 64 billion chance that two fingerprints will be exactly the same in the world.
Practical examples: In forensic centers, hundreds of thousands of fingerprint samples have been compared and no perfect match has been found.
The role of fingerprints in criminal and forensic sciences
Fingerprints are one of the important tools in identifying criminals and victims, from the Middle Ages to the present day, this method has proven to be able to accurately identify individuals.
History: fingerprints were introduced as a method of recording identity and replaced older methods in the late 19th century.
Applications: Today, fingerprints are used to identify individuals in airports, banks, and security systems.
Fingerprint as a Divine Signature in the Quran
The Holy Quran states: [أَيَحسَبُ ٱلإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ 3 بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ 4] Translation: “Yes! (We will gather them) We are able to recreate even his fingertips (which is one of the smallest parts of the body) in its entirety (and restore it to its original state).” [Al-Qiyamat: 3-4]
These verses indicate that Allah Almighty is able to recreate even the most minute features of the human body, including fingerprints, on the Day of Judgment. This is a great testimony to the infinite power of Allah.
Reconstruction of fingerprints on the Day of Judgment: Just as fingerprints are created in the mother’s womb, Allah Almighty will restore this pattern in an accurate and complete form on the Day of Judgment.
The Wisdom of Creation and Balance in Fingerprints
Fingerprints are an example of precise order and balance in creation. Each pattern is made up of a combination of thousands of small branches that could not be stable without order.
Unique Signature: No two fingerprints are same, this is a sign of the individuality and uniqueness of each human being.
Order of Creation: Just as everything in the world of creation has order and balance, fingerprints are also a small example of this great order.
Contemporary Scientific Studies and Research
Extensive scientific studies in the field of fingerprints include the use of advanced imaging technology and pattern matching software, these technologies have increased the accuracy of identification to a very high level.
Identification Software: Fingerprint biometric systems are widely used, especially in digital security.
Medical examples: New research in genetics and dermatology has provided new information about the process of fingerprint formation.
Examples of fingerprint regeneration after surgery
Practical experiments have shown that if a fingerprint is completely destroyed due to surgery or injury, new skin will grow back with the same fingerprint pattern.
Real-life examples: Some criminals have had their finger skin surgically removed to hide their fingerprints; however, their fingerprints have reappeared after a while.
Divine message: This indicates that fingerprints are a signature from Allah Almighty that cannot be easily removed.
Finally, we would like to state that a human fingerprint is one of the strongest signs of identity and divine signature from the beginning of creation to the end of life and even beyond. This symbol represents the order, precision, and wisdom of Allah Almighty in the creation of human, and reminds us that every human being is unique and his Creator is with him at all stages of his life.
