The Role of Muslims in the Formation and Development of Science (Part 68)
Health of the heart and love for people
One of the beauties of Islam is the beauty of dealing and interacting with others. In such a way that Islamic advice on smiling, openness and kind words has been concerned that these actions come from the heart, not from artificiality or show or obligation or hypocrisy.
It is on this basis, the religion of Islam and its guidelines are separated from others; because Islam is not an institution or commercial company that cares about the number of customers, rather it cares about spreading love, mercy and happiness among people.
On this basis, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reported that Salim al-Sadr (the pure-hearted) is the best of people; so when he was asked: “Who is the best of people?” He said: «كُلُّ مَحْمُومِ الْقَلْبِ صَدُوقِ اللِّسَانِ» Translation: “Everyone whose heart is pure and whose tongue is truthful.” The companions said: “We know the one that his tongue is truthful, but what is “the one who is pure in heart?” He said: «هُوَ التَّقِيُّ النَّقِيُّ، لَا إِثْمَ فِيهِ وَلَا بَغْيَ وَلَا غِلَّ وَلَا حَسَدَ» Translation: “He is the one who is pious and pure, in whom there is no sin, no injustice, no malice, no envy.” [1]
And indeed, Allah forgives people, except for the one who harbors hatred towards his brother in his chest. This was announced by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he said: “تُفْتَحُ أَبْوَابُ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَ الاثْنَيْنِ وَيَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ، فَيُغْفَرُ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا، إِلَّا رَجُلًا كَانَتْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ أَخِيهِ شَحْنَاءُ، فَيُقَالُ: أَنْظِرُوا هَذَيْنِ حَتَّى يَصْطَلِحَا، أَنْظِرُوا هَذَيْنِ حَتَّى يَصْطَلِحَا” Translation: “The gates of Paradise will be opened on Monday and Thursday, so every servant who does not associate anything with Allah will be forgiven, except for a man who has hatred between him and his brother, then it will be said: Give these two time to reconcile, give these two time to reconcile.” [2]
Even the first group to enter Paradise are those whose hearts are pure and clean; It is narrated from Sayyedena Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “أَوَّلُ زُمْرَةٍ تَلِجُ الْجَنَّةَ صُورَتُهُمْ عَلَى صُورَةِ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ، لَا يَبْصُقُونَ فِيهَا وَلَا يَمْتَخِطُونَ وَلَا يَتَغَوَّطُونَ، آنِيَتُهُمْ فِيهَا الذَّهَبُ، أَمْشَاطُهُمْ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ، وَتَجَامِرُهُمُ الأَلُوَّةُ، وَرَشْحُهُمُ الْمِسْكُ، وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ زَوْجَتَانِ، يُرَى مُخُّ سُوقِهِمَا مِنْ وَرَاءِ اللَّحْمِ مِنَ الْحُسْنِ، لَا اخْتِلَافَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَلَا تَبَاغُضَ، قُلُوبُهُمْ قَلْبٌ وَاحِدٌ، يُسَبِّحُونَ اللَّهَ بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا” Translation: “The first group to enter Paradise will have faces like the face of the moon on the night of Badr. They will neither spit nor blow their noses nor defecate there. Their vessels will be of gold, their combs of gold and silver, their incense will be fragrant oud wood, their sweat will be musk, and for each of them will be two wives, the marrow of their calves will be visible from behind the flesh because of their beauty. There will be no difference or enmity between them, their hearts will be one, and they will glorify Allah morning and evening.” [3]
And “the health of the chest and heart” and its absence from inner sins was one of the commandments of the Prophet of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) who said: “إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظَّنَّ؛ فَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ أَكْذَبُ الْحَدِيثِ، وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا وَلَا تَحَسَّسُوا وَلَا تَبَاغَضُوا، وَكُونُوا إِخْوَانًا” Translation: “Avoid suspicion, for suspicion is the most false speech, and do not spy, do not spy, do not be enemies, and be brothers.” [4]
One of the natural things that Allah Almighty has placed in the creation of His servants is that He created them with beauty, and one of them is the soundness of the chest: “صُنْعَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي أَتْقَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ” Translation: “The creation of Allah, who has made everything firm.” [5] Therefore, if grudges remain in the heart, it will tire the hearts themselves.
This is what Imam Ibn Hazm (may Allah bless him) observed and was surprised by, saying: I saw most people [except those whom Allah Almighty protects, and they are few] hastening misery, sorrow, and suffering for themselves in this world, and taking on a great sin that will cause fire in the Hereafter, without gaining any benefit. From the evil intentions they harbor in their hearts, such as wishing for a deadly burden on people, children, and the innocent, and wishing for the most severe calamity for those they hate, even though they are certain that those evil intentions will not bring them anything of what they desire or cause it to come true. If they had made their intentions pure and good, they would have found comfort for themselves sooner, their affairs would have been arranged, and they would have obtained a great reward in the Hereafter, without this preventing them from achieving anything of their desires. So what greater loss is there than this state that We warned against! And what greater happiness is there than that to which We invited! [6]
And greater than the health of the chest is love for all people, and we see this in the personality of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that in addition to the health of the chest, his love for all people is evident. The love that can be clearly seen in his eloquent words, when he described himself and the condition of the people in front of his call as follows: “إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ النَّاسِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا، فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ جَعَلَ الْفَرَاشُ وَهَذِهِ الدَّوَابُّ الَّتِي تَقَعُ فِي النَّارِ يَقَعْنَ فِيهَا، فَجَعَلَ يَنْزِعُهُنَّ وَيَغْلِبْنَهُ فَيَقْتَحِمْنَ فِيهَا، فَأَنَا أَخُذُ بِحُجَزِكُمْ عَنِ النَّارِ وَهُمْ يَقْتَحِمُونَ فِيهَا” Translation: “Indeed, my likeness and that of the people are like a man who kindled a fire, then when it became bright around him, the butterflies and these animals that fall into the fire began to fall into it, and he pulled them out and they overpowered him and threw themselves into it; and I will take your skirts from the fire and you will throw yourselves into it”. [7]
This image is impressive… This is a battle; a battle in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) tries to prevent the people from falling into the fire, but they overpower him and fall into it.
So this is not just a message, it is not just a mission, it is not just an advice; Rather, it is a battle in which the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) strives and engages the people, and some overcome him and throw themselves into it. [8]
Translation: “There was a Jewish slave who served the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who fell ill, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him and sat by his head and said: Become a Muslim.” He looked at his father who was with him, and his father said: Obey Abu al-Qasim; so he became a Muslim. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out while saying: Praise be to Allah, who saved him from the Fire.” [9]
How great is this Prophet!
When he was wounded in Uhud, he wiped the blood from his face and said: «رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِقَوْمِي فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ» Translation: “My Lord, forgive my people, for they do not know.” [10]
On the most difficult day of his life, he was kinder to the people (the disbelievers) than they were to themselves; Hazrat Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that she said to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): Has there ever been a day more difficult for you than the Day of Uhud? Translation: “Indeed, I have seen some suffering from your people, and the most difficult thing I have seen from them was on the day of ‘Aqaba, when I presented myself to Ibn ‘Abd-Yalil ibn ‘Abd-Kilal, and he did not accept what I asked for. So I set out in sorrow until I found myself in Qarn al-Thalab. Then I raised my head and suddenly I saw a cloud casting a shadow over me. Then I looked and suddenly there was Gabriel in it, calling me and saying: Indeed, Allah has heard what your people said to you and what they answered you and has sent the angel of the mountains to you so that you may command whatever you wish concerning them.” So the angel of the mountains called me and greeted me and said: O Muhammad, this is in your power. If you wish, I will bring down on them two mountains of wood.” So the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) said: “Rather, I hope that Allah will bring forth from among them people who will worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him”. [11]
The Prophet who included even animals in this affection, to the point of rewarding good deeds towards every living creature; As it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) said: “بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ بِطَرِيقٍ اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَطَشُ، فَوَجَدَ بِئْرًا، فَنَزَلَ فِيهَا فَشَرِبَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ، فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ يَلْهَثُ يَأْكُلُ الثَّرَى مِنَ الْعَطَشِ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: لَقَدْ بَلَغَ هَذَا الْكَلْبَ مِنَ الْعَطَشِ مِثْلُ الَّذِي كَانَ بَلَغَ مِنِّي، فَنَزَلَ الْبِئْرَ فَمَلَأَ خُفَّهُ مَاءً، فَسَقَى الْكَلْبَ، فَشَكَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ، فَغَفَرَ لَهُ” “Translation: “A man was very thirsty on the way, so he found a well and went down to drink, then he came out, then suddenly he saw a dog panting and eating dirt from thirst. The man said: Indeed, this dog is thirsty, just as I was. So he went to the well and filled his shoe with water and gave the dog water. Then Allah thanked him and forgave him. They said: O Messenger of Allah, is there any reward for us in animals? He said: There is a reward in every living creature”. [12]
By presenting these examples, the enlightening religion of Islam has brought to light the inner beauty of human and has made him a gentle and soft-hearted being who is not only like this in dealing with believers; but also in dealing with the entire world and all beings. [13]
