Arjaa has two meanings in the word: 1. to hope; Raja Yerjo, Raja and Rajawa, anti-despair; Therefore, the last letter is the inflection of the word of cause.
2. To delay work. Postpone the matter, and this word also means delay in Shari’i texts. Almighty Allah says: «أرجه وأخاه»”Stop him and his brother.” In this case, the last letter is the main one. This word is also called “Arje”. In another place, Allah says: «وءاخرون مرجون لأمر الله» “and there are other people who have been left to Allah’s command and providence.” which is also called “Marjeon”; So “Arjaa” in both verses means delay.
And it is mentioned in the hadith of Ka’b bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him that he says: «وأرجأ رسول الله صلیاللهعلیهوسلم أمرنا» “And the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, delayed our issue.”
Morjai and Marji is the active noun from Arjaa, which means promising or delaying, which is called Marjai and Marji in the first place.
Morjaeh in the term
Morjeah is the name of one of the oldest Islamic sects. In Shari’i terminology: removing action from the truth of faith, and at the end of the first century, it was referred to in two meanings: 1. Those who delayed the order of Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them; 2. Those who consider faith outside the truth of faith and its name.
Imam Ibn Ainiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, says: “There are two kinds of Arjaa; First: The people who delayed the order of Hazrat Ali and Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them; So, this group went to research and left; Second: It is the Marjee of the present age that believes that faith is without action.
Perhaps the name of this sect is derived from Arjaa in the first meaning or derived from Arjaa in the second meaning, both of which are suitable for the religion of this sect; Because as will be investigated in the future, they hoped for divine pardon and forgiveness for the sinners on the condition of having faith – they attach a special meaning to it – or they delayed the judgment about them until the Day of Resurrection. Some people have said: They were called Morjeeh because they were delaying Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) from the first rank to the fourth rank in the issue of caliphate.
