A: The Unique Blessings and Effects of Ramadan Throughout the Year
One of the unique blessings of this month is that if someone spends Ramadan in worship, obedience, piety, and good deeds, then, inshallah, they will experience goodness and tranquility throughout the entire year and will have a life full of blessings.
Hazrat Sheikh Sarhindi, Mujaddid Alif Thani (MABH), writes: “The blessed month of Ramadan encompasses all forms of goodness and blessings. Laylat al-Qadr, which is the essence and core of this blessed month, is like its marrow, while the rest of the month is like its outer shell. Whoever spends this month comprehensively (i.e., engaging in all forms of goodness and righteous deeds) will be filled with its blessings and, Allah willing, will spend the entire year in peace and prosperity.” [Maktubat Mujaddid Alif Thani, Letter No. 162, Vol. 1, p. 358]
Therefore, let us make the best use of this valuable opportunity and divine gift so that this month becomes a means of changing our destiny.
B: The Effects of Ramadan on a Person’s Destiny
Ramadan is a month filled with blessings and mercy. This month has a direct impact on a person’s fate. Whoever utilizes it properly will be enveloped in divine mercy, and this special attention from Allah will continue throughout the year. However, if someone fails to take advantage of this month and does not seek Allah’s mercy, they will be deprived of divine blessings not only for the year but perhaps for their entire life.
As Hafiz Ibn Rajab Hanbali writes in Lata’if al-Ma’arif: “Reaching the month of Ramadan and fasting in it is a great blessing for the one whom Allah has granted the ability to do so. Whoever attains divine mercy in Ramadan is indeed fortunate (as they will continue to be under Allah’s mercy throughout the year, experiencing a life full of goodness, blessings, and peace). However, whoever is deprived of its goodness is truly deprived (as they will miss out on blessings and goodness throughout the year). And whoever fails to gather provisions for the Hereafter in this month is indeed blameworthy.” [Lata’if al-Ma’arif, p. 280]
C: Ramadan – A Field of Competition for Servants
Allah has designated Ramadan as a competitive field for His servants. Whoever benefits from the opportunities and divine favors of this month and hastens towards obedience and His pleasure will attain success in both this world and the Hereafter and will always remain under His boundless mercy. However, those who neglect this valuable opportunity, fail to perform their worship properly, and ignore acts of goodness will be deprived of divine blessings in their lives and will suffer great loss.
Imam Hasan al-Basri (MABH) said: “Allah has made the month of Ramadan a field of competition for His servants so that they may race towards His obedience and pleasure. Some have advanced and achieved success, while others have lagged behind and suffered loss.” [Lata’if al-Ma’arif, p. 278]
A Muslim must take advantage of every opportunity because they have come into this world for a test and have not been created in vain. Allah has granted Ramadan as a reward and a special gift for His servants so they may benefit from its blessings and be counted among the successful.
D: Forgiveness of Sins
One of the great blessings of Ramadan is the forgiveness of sins. Whoever fasts in Ramadan with faith and the hope of reward will have their past sins forgiven.
Hazrat Abu Huraira (MABH) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and the hope of reward, their past sins will be forgiven. Whoever stands in prayer during the nights of Ramadan with faith and the hope of reward, their past sins will be forgiven. And whoever worships on the Night of Qadr with faith and the hope of reward, their past sins will be forgiven.” [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, p. 225]
Every servant hopes for the forgiveness of their sins. Therefore, let us fast during Ramadan while observing all its etiquettes and conditions so that our sins may be forgiven, and we may be counted among those who receive divine mercy.
