Allama Sayyed Abul Hasan Nadwi ‘may Allah have mercy on him’ (Part 33)
The Spiritual Moments of Allama Nadwi’s Life, May Allah Have Mercy on Him
    Not Accepting More Salary
After Hazrat Mawlana Nadwi, may Allah have mercy on him, taught for a long time at Darul Uloom Nadwat al-Ulama, he resigned from his position to focus on the activities of Da’awa and reforming people. He started independently on the path of calling and propagating religious issues. Due to his outstanding qualifications, high talent, and sincerity, he received various invitations to teach in universities with very high salaries, but he did not accept any of them. He was always determined and immersed in the great work of the invitation, traveling to different countries and calling people to Allah Almighty.
    Avoiding Acceptance of Big Prizes
Imam Nadwi, may Allah have mercy on him, was favored by everyone due to his valuable services and meritorious achievements. Everyone praised and honored him, awarding him big prizes and medals. However, he never used these big prizes for personal work; instead, he used them in the right way.
Abdullah Abbas Nadwi writes: King Abdullah bin Hussein of Jordan presented a large amount to Mawlana, but Mawlana refused to accept it. Some courtiers said: “The king’s gift cannot be rejected.” Therefore, Mawlana transferred all that amount to Palestine’s account. Additionally, he deposited half of the award that King Faisal had presented to him to the Afghan Jihad account in Makkah and handed over the other half to the Makkah Solatiya Madrasa for memorizing the Qur’an, not keeping a single Rial for himself.
In 1419 AH, the Ruler of Dubai started the series of awards for distinguished Tajweed and recitation, adding that an award should also be given to the greatest religious scholar of the Islamic world. In the holy month of Ramadan 1419 AH, according to the approval of all Arab and non-Arab scholars, this gift, amounting to one million dirhams, was allocated to Mawlana Nadwi, may Allah have mercy on him. Mawlana allocated this amount for religious education and did not take a single bit for himself.
Here we are reminded of the hadith that the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him: “O Bilal! Spend and do not fear that you will face a shortage from the owner of the Arsh.”
Allama Nadwi, may Allah have mercy on him, despite all these gifts and generosity, did not allow any delay in spending it. Some may think that Allama Nadwi did not need to use these gifts and, in addition to his own needs, he gave them to others. However, Dr. Abdullah Abbas Nadwi writes after telling the story of his generosity: “All this asceticism of Mawlana was at a time when Sheikh Ahmad Abdul Ghafoor Atta said in his radio speech: ‘The clothes of Sheikh Abul Hasan are light in terms of weight and material price. Such austerity along with need is liked by Allah Almighty and has great value in the eyes of His servants.'”
Nevertheless, Mawlana Nadwi (may Allah have mercy on him) not only did not reject sincere gifts, but accepted them wholeheartedly. For example, Moulana Hakim Muhammad Yasin stayed in Solatiya school and did school work. He was also the head of the school library. Once, he put five rials in an envelope and wrote on it: “Accept this gift that comes with tears of sincerity.” Mawlana accepted it with great gratitude.
