The Importance of Security in Islam (Part 25)
    Introduction
Identifying the factors that prevent the realization of security is crucial; until these factors are identified and addressed, society will never achieve true security. Therefore, this part of the research is dedicated to identifying and examining these factors, as well as exploring the losses and damages caused by insecurity.
Obstacles and Losses Related to the Lack of Security in Society
Peace and security have long been constant concerns and enduring desires of humanity. While humans have always strived to achieve this great ideal, they have often fallen short. Human history is filled with wars and conflicts, and the failure to achieve security is attributed to various obstacles that hinder its realization.
Below, we will discuss some of the obstacles to achieving security, along with the losses resulting from its absence:
    1. Economic Poverty
One of the fundamental problems that lead to insecurity in society is poverty, or economic weakness. When individuals in a community are hungry, impoverished, and needy, they face numerous problems and hardships that may compel them to engage in destructive and insecure actions.
For instance, when people are poor and helpless, their desperation may lead them to steal or to seek wrongful means of making a living, jeopardizing societal security.
“Financial need is among the most pressing human needs. Life without the fulfillment of this need is fraught with serious dangers. To meet this need, individuals must first strive to do so through legitimate means. However, if, despite their efforts, they remain unable to meet their needs, they may be inclined to resort to illicit activities, committing crimes such as theft, fraud, or breach of trust. Therefore, poverty stands as a primary factor in the erosion of security.”
    2. Addiction
Drug addiction is another factor that has caused severe harm to many countries and societies. Those affected by this devastating scourge are often the youth, who are considered the active force and backbone of society.
When young people become addicts, many economic and social activities suffer, and vital institutions, including schools and educational centers, face significant challenges.
Moreover, while young people are essential for maintaining societal security, addiction deprives society of their productive capabilities, leaving it in chaos and disorder rather than security.
    3. Domestic Violence
Disputes and conflicts within families also undermine security and peace in society. In some regions, these conflicts can escalate into prolonged and large-scale wars that may persist for years. To prevent such incidents, it is imperative for members of society, especially elders and influential figures, to address these issues. Through their influence, they should educate others on the importance of peace, the harmful consequences of destructive conflicts, and encourage the community to avoid such behaviors.
    4. Corruption and Prostitution
Corruption, prostitution, and promiscuity are additional factors that threaten societal security. Individuals engaged in such undesirable acts often succumb to animalistic traits, losing the ability to discern the benefits and harms of their actions. By violating the rights of others and disrupting societal norms, they significantly endanger community security.
    5. Mistrust
Mistrust is another challenge to security. This distrust can manifest towards officials, other members of society, or even oneself. Several factors contribute to this issue, including negligence and a disregard for individuals’ rights. The prevalence of mistrust weakens the foundations of security and fosters social instability.
    6. Discrimination
Discrimination among members of society is yet another factor that threatens security. When justice is not upheld and certain groups enjoy special privileges due to their affiliations, society becomes rife with issues. This disparity can lead to widespread dissatisfaction, social tensions, and ultimately a decline in security.
    7. Organized Crime
Organized crime poses a significant threat to societal security. Such crimes, characterized by meticulous and targeted planning, disrupt societal peace and incite chaos and unrest.
    8. Women’s Issues
The violation of women’s rights and the dismissal of their religious entitlements are crucial factors that threaten societal security. Women’s rights, as defined within the framework of Islamic law, acknowledge their human dignity and ensure their value and status. In contrast, the Western approach to women’s rights is often regarded as superficial and promotional, frequently neglecting the genuine value of women in Western societies.
    9. Mental Illnesses and Disorders
Mental illnesses and disorders can also jeopardize societal security. Individuals suffering from these conditions may disregard laws and regulations, leading to actions that disrupt public order and threaten community safety.
