How Should I Raise My Child? (Part 9)
What Parents Should Know
Dear Parents:
Many of us make mistakes in raising our children, which can cause irreparable physical and psychological harm. If your parenting method has not been effective so far, do not hesitate to seek help from experts. If your child exhibits undesirable behaviors that you cannot control, if family relationships are strained and cause you distress, and if you do not feel satisfied or fulfilled as a parent, take a moment to pause and reflect on the thoughts that are going through your mind.
What do you usually say to yourself?
  • Am I not a worthy parent because I couldn’t raise my child well?
  • Is my child intentionally acting out to embarrass me in front of friends and family? Will my child not have a good future because he can’t behave properly?
  • Is my child unfixable?
Now try to replace those thoughts with the following dialogue:
“I have tried very hard to raise my child, and I have been successful in many ways. I can try again, achieve more success, and find better methods to raise my child. I am a capable parent. I need to teach my child how to behave, practice the desired behaviors with him, and encourage him each time he demonstrates those behaviors.
Regardless of the cause of my child’s behavioral issues, I can play an effective role in changing his behavior. If I act promptly, my child’s behavioral problems can be resolved more easily and will not persist. My child and I can work together to build a better future. Behavioral issues will not resolve themselves simply with age; if I want my child to learn the necessary communication skills and behave properly, I must teach him from a young age.
No child becomes a successful adult on their own. Like a gardener, I must nurture him at all times, support him, love him, and instruct him when needed.
There is always a path to improvement; there is always hope for better behavior. I can consult with experts and explore new strategies that I may not have known about before. I can be effective in raising my child and playing a positive role. It is never too late to start; however, the sooner I begin, the better the outcome will be.”
