The Position of Women in Islam (Part 38)
The Position of Daughters in Islam
The position of a daughter in Islam is very high. It is sufficient to note the superiority of a girl’s status that Allah Almighty has considered it a gift in His Holy Word. As Allah Almighty says: «یهب لمن یشاء إناثا ویهب لمن یشاء الذکور» (“He gives a daughter to whomever He wants, and He gives a son to whomever He wants”). He has granted daughters to His most beloved servants.
In the previous part of the research, we aimed to express the virtue of raising a girl, the rights of a girl, and related issues. However, since the scope of this topic is wider, we have dedicated the next section to these issues.
The Virtue of Training a daughter
Another indication of Allah’s love for girls, and their high position and value before Allah Almighty, is that He blessed His best servants, who are the Prophets, peace be upon them, with daughters. For instance, the descendants of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, continue from his daughter, Hazrat Fatima Al-Zahra.
According to the chain of relationships, the most valuable lineage is that of the Sadat, which leads to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It is important to mention that this great lineage appeared through the best of the women of Paradise, namely Hazrat Fatima Al-Zahra, may Allah be pleased with her. This great personality, who embodies the source of all blessings, is presented in the form of a girl.
Obaidullah Saadi, may Allah have mercy on him, states: “It has been reported to me that Allah Almighty loves girls [as shown by the fact that Allah’s prophets had daughters]. Hazrat Lut (peace be upon him) had a daughter. Hazrat Shoaib (peace be upon him) had a daughter. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also had a daughter.”
Saleh bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned: “Whenever Allah blessed my father with a daughter, he would say: ‘Prophets also had daughters.'”
It is narrated from the senior Sahaba, Wathlah bin Asqa, that he said: “One of the joys and blessings of a woman is that she gives birth to a daughter first. Almighty Allah, in the verse «یهب لمن یشاء إناثا ویهب لمن یشاء الذکور» (‘He gives a daughter to whom He wills, and He gives a son to whom He wants’), mentioned the girl first.”
