An example of the upbringing and attention of the Holy Prophet, (PBUH), to his daughters:
Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salama, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated: “One day I sent for Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” Her husband, As bin Rabi’h, was a polytheist and was captured after Hazrat Zainab’s emigration to Medina. I said to her: “Go and take respite from your father for him.” She went, and when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was praying with the people, she put her head out of the room and said: “O people, I am Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I have sheltered Abul As.” When the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, finished the prayer, he said: “I did not know about this until now, but be aware that every Muslim can shelter someone.”
Accepting and supporting Zainab’s request is a clear indication from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, of the high status of girls and young women who work for the benefit of the nation and consider it their duty.
Today, it is still necessary to educate our girls properly so that in the future, they can play effective and active roles in the progress and excellence of our society. This is important because the girls of today are the mothers of tomorrow and the architects of future generations. Reforming and improving mothers can lead to the upbringing of righteous and productive children.
The daughters of the Holy Prophet may Allah bless him and grant him peace, are Zainab, Ruqiyyah, Umm Kulsum, and Fatima, who, together with their honorable mother, Hazrat Khadija Al-Kubra, may Allah be pleased with her, stood by their beloved father during the difficult days in Makkah. They were his partners and companions in performing heavy duties and great responsibilities. They resisted hardships, such as being besieged and cut off from relationships with others, with steadfast faith and great patience and did not show any weakness, fatigue, or despair. Hazrat Ruqiyyah, may Allah be pleased with her, migrated to Abyssinia with her husband, Usman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, and Umm Kulsum, may Allah be pleased with her, fought against the idolaters in Makkah to defend her beloved father, enduring many hardships in the process. But Hazrat Fatima, may Allah be pleased with her, the pure and noble lady, is the woman for whom an angel descended from the sky to give her father the glad tidings that she would be the leader of the women of Paradise. Hazrat Huzaifah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, narrates from the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “An angel descended on me and gave me the good news that Fatima is the leader of all the women of Paradise.”
The Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said of her: “Fatima is part of my body; whoever upsets her seems to have upset me.” The Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was very considerate of his daughter and confided in her some of his secrets. When the death of the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, drew near, he spoke to Hazrat Fatima about his impending death. “Gabriel (peace be upon him) used to read the Quran to me once every year, but this year he read it to me twice.” Hearing this, Hazrat Fatima, may Allah be pleased with her, began to cry, and when the Prophet of Islam saw her distress, he asked: “Would you be satisfied if you became the leader of all the women of this Ummah?” The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) treated his daughters with such compassion and kindness that he serves as the best example for the Ummah.
