Methods of Achieving Security from the Perspective of Islam
5) Prayer and Asking Allah Almighty
One of the most effective ways to attain security, alongside striving for it, is through prayer (dua). This practice is emphasized in the Quran and exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who consistently sought Allah’s security and peace on various occasions. He would pray at the beginning of each month upon sighting the new moon, as well as during times of hardship, difficulties, and crises.
The Holy Quran underscores the importance of turning to Allah in prayer to seek security. Several verses highlight that supplication is a recommended mechanism for achieving peace and safety.
Allah Almighty beautifully states: «وإذ قال إبراهیم رب اجعل هذا البلد آمنا واجنبنی وبنیّ أن نعبد الأصنام» (And when Abraham said: “My Lord, make this land secure and safe, and keep me and my children away from worshipping idols.”)
In this verse, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) prays for the security and tranquility of the city of Makkah.
Security is one of the blessings bestowed by Allah Almighty, and blessings should only be sought from Him. Some of the righteous predecessors remarked: “We contemplated goodness and found many pathways to it: prayer, fasting, night prayers, Hajj, and more. We realized that all of these are in the hands of the Lord of the Worlds, and thus we understood that supplication is the key to every good.”
Therefore, when you desire goodness in this world and the Hereafter, seek it from Allah Almighty. If you wish for security—for yourself, your family, your state, and for the entire Islamic nation—strive in your supplications. As mentioned previously, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) prayed for the security of his city.
