The Position of Women in Islam (Part 17)
Participation of Women in Thanking and Praising
It was narrated from Hazrat Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: “Hind bint Otbah came and said: O Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, before, nothing in the world was more beloved and better to me than the defeat and humiliation of your family, but now there is nothing in the world more than the honor and victory of your family (Ahl Bayt).” The Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “I swear to Allah, I am the same as well.”
    C) Keeping Secrets
Keeping secrets is an important aspect of political work. Asma, daughter of Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, during the Prophet’s emigration to Yathrib, took food for him and his companions and knew about their hiding places. When the polytheists were chasing the Messenger of Allah, they interrogated her; she did not reveal her secrets and was slapped by Abu Jahl.
Umm al-Mu’minin, Hazrat Ayesha (RA), was the keeper of secrets. She protected the secrets of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, so much so that she did not reveal them even to his father, despite his insistence. Even though she knew his father’s position for the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, she made the children of the Islamic Ummah aware of the importance of keeping secrets in an unprecedented way.
Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, was also one of the keepers of secrets. It has been narrated from Hazrat Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was with her; Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, was walking in a manner that resembled the manner of the Messenger of Allah. When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw her, he welcomed her and said: “Welcome, my daughter!” Then he seated her on his right or left side. After that, he whispered to her, and Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) cried a lot. When the Holy Prophet saw her anxiety and worry, he whispered to her again, and Fatimah laughed. Hazrat Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: “I said to her: ‘The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, chose you to keep his secret; why are you crying?!'” When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood up, I asked her: “What did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say to you?” She said: “I cannot reveal the secret of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him.”
In the answer of Hazrat Fatima (RA) to Hazrat Ayesha (the wife of his father and the most beloved wife to him, in spite of the right she had over Fatima), one should pause and reflect a little. All these things are done to protect the secret that is not allowed to be revealed even to a beloved relative. For this reason, Hazrat Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) kept her father’s secret and did not tell anyone about it until her father’s death. Because in stating it – at that time – it was expedient for herself, his father, and the general Muslims. I wish the women of today had a quarter of the piety, strength, and fortitude that Hazrat Fatima, may Allah be pleased with her, had in the right and strictness of protecting the trust of secrets and other rights and responsibilities.
