The Importance of security in Islam (Part Five)
The Position of Security in the Holy Quran
To better understand the position and importance of security in the Holy Quran, as well as the role it plays in the reconstruction and prosperity of a city or country, we will refer to a few verses as examples.
    1. «أَفَمَنْ يُلْقَىٰ فِي النَّارِ خَيْرٌ أَمْ مَنْ يَأْتِي آمِنًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» (“Is the one who is thrown into the fire better, or the one who will come on the Day of Resurrection in complete safety?”)
This verse deals with the mood of the Resurrection. Almighty Allah, who knows the external and the internal, asks His servants with this theme: “Is the one who comes to the Mahshar Square on the Day of Judgment safely and comfortably equal to the one who is trembling with fear and terror in his whole being? Obviously, these two categories are not equal to each other.
    2. The verse: «فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمَن دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِنًا» — “There are clear signs in it [including] the place of Abraham, and whoever enters it is safe.”
    3. «وَقَالَ ادْخُلُوا مِصْرَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ آمِنِينَ» — And he said, Allah willing, enter Egypt safely.
    4. «وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْقُرَى الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا قُرًى ظَاهِرَةً وَقَدَّرْنَا فِيهَا السَّيْرَ سِيرُوا فِيهَا لَيَالِيَ وَأَيَّامًا آمِنِينَ» — “Between them and the lands that We had blessed, we placed clear cities and settlements, and we determined appropriate and close distances (and told them) to travel in these settlements day and night in complete security.”
In this verse, the Holy Quran explains that the existence of security, peace, stability, and health in travel are the main reasons for the abundance of blessings, the short distances between villages and cities, and the abundance of services. It is thanks to this security that relationships and bonds between people are strengthened, trade flourishes, economies grow, and comfort spreads everywhere.
Zamakhshari writes in the interpreting on this verse: “[among these cities and villages] move and go whenever you want; it does not matter whether it is night or day, because security is no different from changing times in it.”
It is a fact that when security is established in a city or an area, people go about their daily business activities and invest in that area without worry. Security protects their lives, property, and assets, as a result, the existence of security causes change, transformation, and progress in society. This progress is only possible when the villages, cities, and surrounding areas are safe. This is the subject that Allah Almighty has mentioned in this verse.
    5. «وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ» — “And they carved houses out of the mountains in safety.”
    6. «وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا الْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَأَمْنًا» — “(And remember) when We made the house of the Kaaba a place of return and a center of safety and security for the people.”
    7. «وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَذَا الْبَلَدَ آمِنًا» — “And [remember] the time when Ibrahim said, O Lord, protect this city.”
When Hazrat Ibrahim Khalilullah (peace be upon him) was in the flat and uncultivated desert of Makka, his main request from Allah Almighty was security (safe city). This issue, that is, asking for security before economic demands and other things, refers to the fact that providing a healthy economy and any other desirable thing is not possible until security prevails in a city or a country.
مِنْ بَعْدِ خَوْفِهِمْ أَمْنًا» — “Allah has made a promise to those of you who have believed and done righteous deeds… and after their fear, He will replace it with security and peace of mind.”
Almighty Allah has promised to those who believe and do good deeds power, strength, and security in the land. The fact that security is placed next to succession and power is itself proof of its position and dignity.
In this verse, security is introduced as a great blessing; because this verse was revealed when the Muslims in Madinah were in extreme fear and dread to the point that none of them could sleep away from their swords due to the fear of infidels, hypocrites, and the gathering of different parties and groups. Finally, Allah fulfilled His promise; He brought them to the caliphate on earth, gave them strength and ability, and turned their fear into security and peace.
