Since Satanism, at least in its modern form, is a product of Western thought, its foundations are derived from or influenced by Western principles and values, which are outlined as follows:
Liberalism:
The most important and fundamental ideological foundation of modern Western thought, which has become the dominant and prevailing stream in Western political and social discourse, is liberalism. Liberalism advocates for freedom, and a liberal is someone who seeks or supports this freedom. Liberalism encompasses several principles, and by examining these principles, the connection between Satanism and liberalism becomes clearer.
Individualism:
Liberalism views the individual as fundamental and free from any absolute values. From this perspective, escaping obligations is considered a right of the individual. This belief resonates with Satanism, where adherents see themselves as their own gods and reject the beliefs and foundations of other religions; this may be rooted in liberal ideology.
Freedom:
The central concept of liberalism is freedom, but freedom encompasses various aspects and questions: freedom from what, and for what purpose? In liberalism, there is an emphasis on freedom from moral and religious constraints, as liberals deny religious truths and ethical values in pursuit of personal freedom within a worldly and pleasure-seeking lifestyle. Today, Satanists, following the lead of liberals, abandon religion and morality under the banner of advocating for freedom, pursuing gratification in momentary pleasures.
Rationalism:
Liberals believe that humans can, through instrumental and partial reason, recognize their own interests without the need for divine revelation. From their perspective, reason is the guide and leader of humanity, rather than revelation. This anti-religious foundation is also evident in contemporary Satanist sects.
