Youths; Future Builders of The Society (Part Five)
Causes of Youth Deviations
1. Not Adhering to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
2. Creating doubts in the minds of youths about their beliefs.
3. Making materialism the goal of life.
4. Broadcasting harmful programs through media that disturb the soul and spirit.
5. Choosing unworthy and incompetent friends.
6. Moving away from scientific inquiry.
7. Not having contact with Islamic scholars and thinkers.
Factors Contributing to Youth’s Tendency Toward Foreign Cultures
1. Lack of proper understanding of Western culture: Some people think that there is hidden value behind the order in the West, but upon closer examination of Western life, this isn’t the case. The Islamic system grants many rights to individuals and has numerous directives.
2. Economic problems in the country: In youth, instincts reach their peak, and young people strive to satisfy them. Meeting these needs promptly plays a crucial role in shaping behavior and promoting growth and development. Failing to meet these needs not only hinders growth and self-actualization but also gives rise to many behavioral abnormalities.
3. Western countries welcome the elites and creative minds of the world: Understanding the role and responsibilities of a society’s elites in guiding and advancing it is crucial. If this understanding is lacking and there is no effective planning for the optimal use of these individuals, and if appropriate social status and conditions for a comfortable life are not provided, these resources will be lost quickly. Due to the necessity of developing industry and keeping technologies up to date, the West must continuously engage innovative minds to compete globally. Therefore, it has implemented diverse and attractive programs to attract talented individuals from all over the world.
Youths: The Great Conquerors of Islam
History shows that many conquerors were young individuals who expanded Islamic conquests with their willpower, initiative, and the help of Allah Almighty. One of these young and brave figures in Islam, the conqueror of Constantinople (now Istanbul), was Sultan Muhammad Fatih, who was only 24 years old at the time of the conquest.
Another notable conqueror of Islam is Tariq bin Ziyad. When he reached the land of Maghreb by traveling from North Africa and crossed the sea on a ship to anchor along the coast of Andalusia (now Spain), he faced a critical moment. With a heart full of faith and certainty, he uttered these words: «العَدُوُّ امَامَکُم والبحرُ وَرائَکُم»;
(The enemy is in front of you, and the sea is behind you.) This statement infused his troops with enthusiasm and a passion for attack.
