Islam and Democracy (Part 8)
Democracy on the scales of criticism of Western scientists
The superior index of everything is correctly known and understood by the experts and scientists of the same field, and they are fully aware of its depth and surface and its upper and lower layers. Also, there are many hidden and obvious positives and negatives in every dimension and part, and each of these wise people reveals and talks about them according to expediency and necessity.
Democracy is one of the thousands of small and large issues that has its own struggle and special experts have penetrated in all its black and white dimensions and have pulled out its gems and pebbles from the depths of the sea. In this note, the same political pebbles from the words and writings of those who are aware of the matter have been collected together in one thread, and in their gathering and unity, the strength of their meaning gets stronger and becomes more effective.
Pay attention to the political and democracy-based statements of political scientists about the failure of democracy in governance:
Edmund Burke said: “Democracy is the most shameful form of government.”
Edmund Burke (d. 1797) was a famous Irish politician, orator, and theoretician who is often cited as the founder of modern conservatism. In his book “Reflections on the French Revolution”, he described democracy as the most shameful type of government; Because he believed that such a government considers the vote and opinion of the people as the highest standard and the law as the only one arising from their will; In the event that the general public is far from reason and wisdom. In addition, democracy weakens the foundation of society by attacking the traditions that are the basis of the country’s strength. In other words, the principles of democracy, such as freedom, equality and human rights, weaken the old and established social values.
Kant said: “Democracy is the worst kind of dictatorship.”
Immanuel Kant, who died in 1804, is considered the greatest western philosopher after Aristotle and undoubtedly had the greatest impact on the system of thought of the modern era, especially in various fields of philosophy. He says:
“Democracy is the worst kind of dictatorship.”
August Comte said: “The sovereignty of the people is a disgraceful lie.”
August Comte, who died in 1857, is the most famous contemporary sociologist and a French philosopher who is considered the founder of modern sociology and the doctrine of positivism.
“The sovereignty of the people is a disgraceful lie.”
John Stuart Mill, who died in 1873, is one of the greatest English thinkers of the 19th century, who is called the great stabilizer of liberal democracy. However, it seems that he also understood the truth of the matter and admits that it is not possible to claim that the people rule over themselves.
“The people who exercise power are not the same people who are being exercised over them.”
Ernest Renan, who died in 1892, is a French philosopher and linguist and one of the most well-known European orientalists.
“Elections cause a group of people with average thoughts to gather around me, and this group of thoughts is lower than the mind of the most average kings.”
The list is long and if we want to continue, with great names such as Herodet, Friedrich Hegel, Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, William James, James Bryce, Wilfredo Pareto, Emmanuel Monier, Harold Laskey, John Dewey, Charles Merriam, Walter Lippmann and Leo We will also meet Strauss, but we will be satisfied with this amount.
Exploring the category of democracy through the eyes of scientists and those who know about our affairs makes us aware of the truth, what it is and the authenticity of democracy, and the hidden particles of its disadvantages are revealed in the sharp ray of truth and reality.
