In Islam, good temper does not mean disregarding sin or disbelief. Being well-mannered does not imply that we should remain silent, smile, or refrain from reacting to the evil actions of others. A negative or harsh response is unwarranted when it does not involve an insult or disregard for religion and its high values. Therefore, causing discomfort to those close to us, if it is for the sake of preserving religious and moral values and adhering to them, is not considered wrong. In fact, it is regarded as one of the most important duties in Shariah, particularly in forbidding evil.
Good temper has many effects and benefits. We mention some of them by taking advantage of the sayings of the noble scholars of Islam:
1. Worldly Benefits
A. Making friendship bonds strong and stable.
B. Developing population of lands and longevity.
C. Increasing livelihood.
D. Improving person’s social position.
E. Solving the problems of life.
2. Otherworldly Benefits
A. Leading to high grades.
B. Making calculation easy (In day of Judgement).
C. Forgiveness of sins.
D. Entering heaven.
And in Conclusion:
Ethics is effective in the process and result of any work. When a person’s goal is nearness and pleasure of Allah, he shows a pleasant behavior that will accompany him both along the way and when he reaches the goal. Ethics has principles that may be written, but more than writing, what is important, is its nature that is of great importance. Ethical nature makes man achieve the goal of his creation, which is closeness to Allah. Every human being’s nature can distinguish between good and bad morals, but whether he manifests good or bad morals depends on his circumstances and choice.
It can be said that Islamic ethics is the natural ethics of every human being. Therefore, the series of traits that are fixed and rooted in the soul of a person and engraved in the mind and become the source of ordering good or bad actions, is called ethics. Sometimes these deeds and actions are acceptable according to Shari’ah and rationally, which are called “good morals” and sometimes they are undesirable, which are called “bad morals”.
The mental health of each person depends on his behavior and performance, and besides that, human behavior is affected by the morals he chooses. In general, human ethics affects all aspects of his life, including work, marriage, friendship and family relationships, etc. Studying and acquiring information about good morals will certainly be useful, but relying on a person’s pure nature in moral matters has a significant impact on the output of each person.
Unfortunately, ethics has been neglected in new modern world. By all these interpretations, it can be concluded that returning to ethics is the way to save humanity from the crises of the modern age. Therefore, a person should always try to attract others to his side with good morals. Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, says: “To recognize piety, do not pay attention to someone’s fasting and prayer, but pay attention to three characteristics: First, when he speaks, he should not say anything except honesty and truth; Second: Whenever He is entrusted, he must observe the perfection of the trust; Third: observe piety when He is angry; All these orders are part of ethics.
May Almighty Allah bless you and us with good morals, A’min.
