Hazrat Firouz Dilmi, MAPH (Part 3)
Conversion of Firouz Dilmi to Islam and narration of hadith
As mentioned in the previous section, Hazrat Syedna Firouz Dilmi, may Allah be pleased with him, is among those whose ancestors came to Arab lands from the land of Persians, and all of them were under the rule of Iranians. They married Arab girls in this land, the result of which were children of two nationalities, of which Syedna Firouz Dilmi, may Allah be pleased with him, is one, and they were called “Abuna” in that land.
Allamah Abdul Rahman Raft Basha, may Allah have mercy on him, says: «(الأبناء) اسم یطلق علی جماعة من الناس، آباؤهم من الفرس الذین نزحوا من بلادهم إلی الیمن و أمهاتهم من العرب» ; (The word Alabna is a name that refers to a group and a group of people whose fathers are from Persia; those who were sent from their lands to the land of Yemen and whose mothers were Arabs.)
Since they and their ancestors were Persians of Iran, it is clear that their religion at that time was Zoroastrian and Magian. They may have converted to another religion.
In any case, they were among those who cooled their eyes by seeing the beautiful face of the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, and achieved the high honor of companionship. As Imam Ibn Saad, may Allah have mercy on him, writes: “I heard the command of the Messenger of Allah,PBUH, and the delegation of Firouz bin Al-Dilmi to the Prophet, PBUH, so he accepted Islam and heard from me and narrated hadiths from him”; (When the news of the sending of the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, reached them, Hazrat Firouz, son of Dilmi, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to the service of the Prophet, PBUH, and believed in him, heard hadith from him, and also narrated some hadiths from him.)
Imam Haysami, may Allah have mercy on him, has also narrated the same hadith with some additions: “They came to Islam with their allegiance and Islam.” They first converted to Islam, then pledged allegiance, and it was not only Hazrat Firouz Dilmi, may Allah be pleased with them, but they were a group. When the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, said to them: “Allah and His Messenger are sufficient for you.” He replied: “Hasbana and Razina”; Allah and His Messenger are sufficient for us, and we are satisfied with them.
The time of meeting and talking with the Holy Prophet
Imam Ibn Asir, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates, quoting Abdullah, the son of Firouz Dilmi: “Firouz Dilmi hadith: He came to the Prophet and said: «حدثني فيروز الديلمي: أنه أتى النبي فقال: يا رسول‌الله! أنا مَن قد علمتَ وجئنا من بين ظهرَي مَن قد علمتَ فمَن ولينا؟ قال: «الله ورسوله» قال: حسبنا»؛ (Firouz Dilmi told me a hadith that he went to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I am someone whom you certainly know about me, and we have come to you from among those whom you certainly also know.” And you are aware of their situation [my people are very oppressive people, and they oppose my conversion to Islam], so who will take charge of our guardianship? He said: “Allah and His Messenger are sufficient for you.” He said: “Yes, Allah and His Messenger are sufficient for us and will suffice us.”
Imam Ibn Qaneh, may Allah have mercy on him, mentions a tradition that is almost similar to the aforementioned hadith, with a slight difference; As he narrates from the son of Abu Amr Sibani, may Allah have mercy on him, that Hazrat Syedna Firouz, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “I came before the Messenger of Allah, PBUH, and I said:«قدمت على رسول‌الله صلى‌الله‌عليه‌وسلم فقلت: يا رسول‌الله!  نحن ممن قد علمت، وخرجنا من حيث تعلم، وصرنا حيث قد علمت قال : «أنتم منا»؛ (I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said to him: “O Messenger of Allah! I am among those whom you know, and we have come out to meet you from a place that you know, and we have become like you.” You also know that our people are against Islam, and you know that we are from the land of Yemen, so what is our duty? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Your honor is our honor, your blood is our blood, and your defense is our own defense.)
