His blessed name
Imam Ibn Abd Al-Barr Al-Andalusi, may Allah have mercy on him, writes in his famous book “Al-Isti’ab fi Ma’rifat al-Ashab”: «فِیروز الدیلمي: يكنى أبا عبد الله. وقيل: أبا عبد الرحمن» Translation: (The kunya (Nick name) of Hazrat Syedna Firouz Dilmi, may Allah be pleased with him, is Abu Abdullah, and it is also said that his kunya is Abu Abd al-Rahman.)
Imam Ibn Asir, (may Allah have mercy on him), also confirms this name in his book “Asad-Al-Ghab fe Ma’rifat Sahaba”, Imam Ibn Saad in “Al-Tabaqat” and Imam Ibn Asakir Demashqi in “Tarikh Damashq”; Of course, they say that Hazrat Syedna Firouz Dilmi, may Allah be pleased with him, was also known by the kunya Abul Zahhak, and he confirms it by citing some hadiths.
Ancestry
Regarding his father’s name, there is no clarification in the books of hadith, biography, history, etc. Of course, we know as much that in reliable sources, whenever his name is mentioned, they all attribute him to (Dilmi), So, they write: “Firouz Ibn Al-Dilmi.”
But Imam Andalusi, may Allah have mercy on him, writes about his lineage: «ويقال له الحميري لنزوله بحمير وهو من أبناء فارس من فرس صنعاء. وقد قيل: إن هؤلاء الأبناء ينسبون في بني ضبة» It is also said to Hazrat Syedna Dilmi, may Allah be pleased with him, since he was born in the region of Hamiri. He is from the lineage and race of Persians who live in the city of Sanaa, Yemen. It has also been said that this race belongs to the Banu Zabah tribe.
Imam Ibn Saad, may Allah have mercy on him, writes: «وهو من أبناء أهل فارس الذين بعثهم كسرى إلى اليمن مع سيف بن ذي يزن فنفوا الحبشة عن اليمن وغلبوا عليها» He is a descendant of the people of Persia, one of those whom Kasra, the king of Iran, sent to the land of Yemen along with a person named “Saif Ibn Zi Yazen”. (to fight there and divide Yemen and establish the authority of Persians and there) They also separated the land of Abyssinia from the country of Yemen and brought it under their rule.
Imam Ibn Asir, may Allah have mercy on him, also quotes Imam Ibn Mandeh and Imam Abu Naim Isfahani, may Allah have mercy on him, writes: «هو ابن أخت النجاشي وهو من أبناء فارس من فرس صنعاء»
Firouz Dilmi is the niece of Najashi (King of Abyssinia). He is a descendant of the Persians of Sanaa.
There is no information about how Hazrat Syedna Firouz, may Allah be pleased with him, was Najashi’s niece; It is possible that at the same time that his fathers and ancestors came to this land, his father made a marriage with one of Najashi’s sisters, and the result of their marriage was Syedna Firouz, may Allah be pleased with him.
