Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Approach to Handling Adversaries (Part 4)
    4. In the 6th year of Hijri, Samama bin Asaal traveled from Yamamah to Makkah to perform Hajj and Umrah. On the way, he encountered some Muslim soldiers who were on a regional mission led by Muhammad bin Muslimah. They unknowingly arrested him and brought him to Madinah. However, they were unaware of the significance of this prisoner and his value. Instead, they believed they had captured an ordinary Arab.
Of course, this kind of magnanimous treatment of a captive and foreigner who believes in and is interested in his character, it is clear what a great effect it has on him and definitely stimulates his emotions and prepares him to obey and follow the Prophet of Islam. Because human beings are seduced by emotions and morals.
Whenever the Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, entered the mosque, he would go near Samama bin Asaal and say: «ما عندك یا ثمامة؟» “What do you have, Samama?” Samama used to say: «عندي خبر»”I have this news that if you order to kill me, you have killed a blood owner [allusion to a respectable person]; If you forgive, you have forgiven a righteous and grateful man, and if you seek worldly wealth, I will give you as much wealth as you want. The Prophet of Islam, (peace be upon him), liked the manner of expression and speech of the governor of Yamama, which also shows his greatness, and he ordered her to be released from the pillar of the mosque and said: “O Samama, I have pardoned you and set you free to go wherever you want.”. Samama was influenced by this good behavior of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and converted to Islam.
    5. There was no difference between infidels and Muslims in the area of the noble morals of the Holy Prophet, (peace be upon him). The Jews had a strong hatred for the Prophet, (PBUH), and each and every event, up to the time of the Khyber campaign, bears witness to this. For example, once, one of the Jews said in the market: I swear by that essence that made Moses superior to all the prophets. One of the Companions of the prophet heard this and could not bear it. He said: Even than prophet Mohammad (PBUH): he said Yes! Sahabi, may Allah be pleased with him, slapped him hard out of anger; Since the enemy also believed in the justice and morals of the savior of mankind, that Jew went directly to him (peace be upon him) and complained about that Companion.
    6. The son of one of the Jews fell ill, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to visit him and invited him to Islam, he looked at his father as if his aim was to gain his father’s approval, his father said: Accept what Abu al-Qasim tells you. he converted to Islam and died with faith. The Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, was very pleased and happy that he saved a human being from the fire of hell.
    7. Abdullah bin Salul, the leader of the hypocrites, who did not stop plotting against Muslims for 9 years, when he was in the grip of death, he ordered that he be buried in the shirt of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, fulfilled his wish, so where this action was surprising for the Companions.
