The role of the Qur’an in the structure of the Arab society
Before Islam, the Arab society was immersed in total ignorance and misguidance, their thoughts and ideas were corrupted, instead of worshiping the Almighty Allah, they chose many Gods and worshiping idols, their emotions had faded to such an extent that for fear of not being in need, Poverty and destitution used to bury their children alive; But after the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was sent and the Quran was revealed to them, the face of their lives changed and a radical transformation took place in their identity and personality. This was because they opened the doors of their minds and hearts to the message of the Qur’an, and in fact, their receiving system was healthy and ready to learn, and the waves of revelation and faith were sent to them in the best way. They were like what Allah says about the effect of his book on their souls: «اللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابًا مُتَشَابِهًا مَثَانِيَ تَقْشَعِرُّ مِنْهُ جُلُودُ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ ثُمَّ تَلِينُ جُلُودُهُمْ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ذَلِكَ هُدَى اللَّهِ يَهْدِي بِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ هَادٍ» Translation: “Allah has sent down the best speech, a book that is similar, upon hearing its verses, a tremor falls on the body of those who fear their Lord, and after that their skins and hearts become soft and ready to accept the Qur’an, this book contains divine guidance and Allah makes whoever He wants a pathfinder in its light.”Al-Zomar, V23”.
Quran taught them life lessons and made historical examples out of them. Because they learned the Qur’an and memorized it, and then acted on it, as Ibn Masoud, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “Whenever one of us learned ten verses, he would not look for other verses before knowing their meanings and acting on them.”
Abu Abd al-Rahman Salmi, may Allah have mercy on him, says: “The companions who taught us the Qur’an used to tell us that they would learn ten verses from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and would not move on to another verse until they practiced those verses and learned their knowledge.
The role of Surah Zelzal in the soul of the Companions
Undoubtedly, Quran Karim is an influential book, and according to Iqbal, may Allah have mercy on him, “This is not a book, it is something else” from this passage, it captured the soul and spirit of the Companions and captivated their hearts and minds, and to prove this claim, he cited a number of examples. We note that this example shows how the effect of Surah Zelzal, especially its last two verses, i.e. verses 7 and 8, on the thoughts and actions of the Companions, Allah says in these two verses: «فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ * وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ»”; Translation: “Whoever does a piece of good will see it, and whoever does an piece of evil will also see it.”Al- Zelzal, Verses 7-8”.
Hafiz al-Suyuti, may Allah have mercy on him, in his commentary on “Al-Daral Mansur” has mentioned: Ishaq bin Rahwayh, Abd bin Hamid, Hakim and Ibn Marwayh have narrated from Asmaa, may Allah be pleased with him: ” “One day Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) was eating with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) when these two verses were revealed, Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) stopped eating and said: O Messenger of Allah! Will man face his bad deeds? The Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “The hardships and problems that befall on you in this world are the punishment for your bad deeds, and your good deeds are reserved for your benefaction and doing good, and they will see their reward.”
Saeed bin Mansour has narrated from the story of Ibn Abdullah bin Hantab that; The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, recited these two verses in an assembly where a Bedouin man was also present. The Bedouin man said: O Messenger of Allah, will we be charged with even one shekel? The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Yes”! The Bedouin man said: Woe to us! Then he got up and kept saying: Woe to us! The Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Indeed, faith has entered the heart of this Bedouin.”
Imam Ibn Abishaibah (RA) narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (RA) that: A beggar asked Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (RA) for charity, a plate of grapes was placed in front of him, he gave him a grape seed, and the people around him saw it as if he objected to this action. He said: “In the same grape seed that I gave to this questioner, there are many “weighty particles”.
