Lying and its ugly consequences on Muslim personality
Lying is an ugly and infamous trait that causes the degradation of a person’s personality and status among people and society. Therefore, dear Islam, more than other religions, considers lies to be ugly and distasteful, and blames liars and traitors, regards honesty as beautiful and desirable, and praises and admires those who are honest and righteous.
Islam places honesty and righteousness next to piety, and in its view, whoever loses honesty has become alienated from piety; because the Holy Qur’an says: «یٰٓأَیهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُواْ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِینَ»” O you who have believed, fear God and be with the righteous”.
A liar person does not have a good position and status with people and society; because by nature, no human being of any religion likes a lie; therefore, a liar has a very low character, and people do not love him, do not trust him, and do not interact well with him.
A liar person will never be successful in life, he will not find the path of truth and guidance, his cowardice will be known to people, and he will face failure in all his affairs. This is the divine punishment for liars who says: «إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یهدِی مَن هُوَ مُسرِفٌ كَذَّاب» “Truly, Allah will not guide someone who is extravagant and lies a lot.” In another verse, Allah (s.w.t) says: «وَقَد خَابَ مَنِ ٱفتَرَىٰ»” Every liar and slanderer is indeed a failure. “
According to this, a good and personable Muslim is aware of these things and knows that “lying” severely damages his chastity and dignity; therefore, he always takes care of his tongue and speaks truthfully to people. Even if he is put in the most difficult conditions and tests; because he knows that “lying” is not characteristic of a Muslim; rather, Islam has listed it among the attributes of hypocrites.
