Apparently, the name “Morjaeh” is taken from this verse which Almighty God says: «وَآخَرُونَ مُرْجَوْنَ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ إِمَّا يُعَذِّبُهُمْ وَإِمَّا يَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ» (And others depend on the command of God, either He punishes them, or they accept their repentance).
This verse was revealed about three of the companions of the Prophet, PBUH: Ka’b ibn Malik, Hilal ibn Umayyah Waqifi, and Mararah ibn Rabi’, who refused to go to the battle of Tabuk due to laziness and negligence, and when the Prophet, PBUH, returned from the battle of Tabuk. They came to the Prophet, PBUH, and expressed their remorse and regret, and the Prophet dealt with them harshly and forbade the Companions from talking to them and ordered their wives not to approach them, and this continued for fifty days until they repented. They were accepted.
Apparently, the protest of the “Morjaeh” from the Qur’an for the correctness of their belief is this verse; Therefore, this verse cannot be a proof for the “Morjaeh” sect; Because this verse is about those who repented and regretted their sin, but God delayed accepting their repentance.
Abu Hatem Razi, may God have mercy on him, in his book, about the concept of reference, considers it to mean delaying, and in the meaning of reference, he believes that it is a nickname for all those who prefer Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar to Hazrat Ali bin Abi Talib and they say that those two are superior to Hazrat Ali, he writes: “Morjaeh was called Morjaeh because Ali was behind him and Abu Bakr was ahead of him.” And according to the view of Abu Hatem Razi, may God have mercy on him, the Shia is placed in front of Morjaeh; That is, anyone who believes that Hazrat Abu Bakr is superior to Hazrat Ali, is called a Morjaeh, and whoever considers Hazrat Ali to be superior to Hazrat Abu Bakr, is called a Shia.
The author of the book “Al-Maqalat al-Feraq” mentions the formation of Morjaeh due to the attacks of Shia and Khawarij against the Bani Umayya.
Who is the founder of “Morjaeh” sect?
Among the scholars, there is a difference of opinion about who first spoke or wrote about Arjaa. The author of the book “Al-Millal-e-Wal-Nahl, Allameh Shahrestani” says that the first person who spoke about Arjaa was “Hasan bin Muhammad bin Abi Talib, known as Hasan bin Muhammad bin Hanifah”; But in the same book and in another place, Ghilan Damashqi is mentioned as the first person who spoke about Arjaa.
It is said that the beginning of Arjaa is that once there was a discussion with Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Abi Talib about the right and wrong of Hazrat Ali, Hazrat Osman, Talha, and Zubair, may God be pleased with them; He said: “It is better to delay ruling and judgment about them, not to approve or reject any of them, and leave them to God so that He will decide what He wants about them on the Day of Resurrection.” after that, Hassan wrote a treatise about “Arjaa”; But later he regretted his writing. Regarding the opinion of Hassan bin Muhammad regarding Arjaa, it can be inferred that he was never inclined to delay the act of faith and only expressed some points as an end to a political issue; But he did not know that this compassion would be the beginning of an endless verbal problem.
But it is stated in the book “Al-Morjaeh al-Qadriyyah”: “the first person who believed in faith was Dhar bin Abdullah, followed by Hammad bin Abi Sulaiman.” Another group believes that this claim is not correct and the first person who spoke about Arjaa was Hamad bin Abi Suleiman. A person whose scientific position is not hidden from anyone, and he was also the teacher of Imam Abu Hanifa (may God have mercy on him).
