Definition
Enjoining good and forbidding evil are two important duties in Islam, which mean calling to good and preventing evil, respectively. These two terms are a duty for every Muslim based on Quranic and Hadith teachings. To do good means to encourage and invite others to do things that are good and acceptable from the point of view of Shariah and intellect, and to forbid the evil means to prevent and stop others from doing things that are considered bad and objectionable from the point of view of Shariah and intellect.
1- Famous:
Famous literally means “known”. And in the term Sharia; Everything that is acceptable and considered good by Shariat is said to be famous.
2- Negative:
Mankar literally means “unknown” and “denied”. And in the term Sharia; Whatever the Shari’ah deems reprehensible and bad and prevents others from doing it, is said to be negated.
It is obvious that humanity doesn’t know anything better than what the Almighty likes for humans, which is the expression of Islam; As God Almighty says in this matter: «الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا ۚ…»؛(Today I have perfected your religion for you and [by honoring you and making your steps firm] I have completed my blessing on you, and I have chosen Islam for you as a God-pleasing religion.) In this verse, the word “satisfaction” clearly refers to our claim.
And without doubt, everything that Bari Ta’ala deems bad for us and prevents us from it, is disbelief and debauchery; As God Almighty says: «وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ فِيكُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ۚ لَوْ يُطِيعُكُمْ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ لَعَنِتُّمْ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَزَيَّنَهُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الرَّاشِدُونَ»؛ (Know that the Messenger of God is among you [know his value and respect him.] When he obeys you in many things, you will be in trouble. But God Almighty has honored faith in your eyes and adorned it in your hearts. and has made disbelief, disobedience, and sin look ugly and distasteful in your eyes, only those [who possess these qualities, i.e. faith is beloved and beautiful in their eyes, and disbelief, immorality, and disobedience are hated and rejected in their eyes.] Way finds and that’s it.)
