Denial of the Hereafter (Resurrection and the Afterlife) (Continued)
In this section, we will establish the existence of the Resurrection using transmitted (Naqli) and rational (Aqli) evidence, and we will also examine the arguments and objections of the deniers of the Hereafter, providing firm and convincing responses based on the Qur’an:
-
Scriptural Evidence for the Resurrection
Allah Almighty has referred repeatedly in numerous verses to the reality of the Resurrection, describing it as an inevitable and certain event, and warning those who deny it with severe threats.
[1] Translation: “The disbelievers claimed that they would never be resurrected. Say: Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will be informed of what you used to do. And that is easy for Allah.” [2] Translation: “When the souls are paired, and when the female infant buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed.”
This verse clearly indicates the existence of the Day of Judgment, where every person will be held accountable and rewarded or punished according to their deeds. [3] Translation: “As for those who disbelieve in Allah’s signs and kill the prophets unjustly and kill those among the people who command justice—give them glad tidings of a painful punishment.”
[4] Translation: “I have not created the jinn and humankind except that they worship Me.”
This verse indicates that humans were created for worship, and they will certainly be questioned about their obedience on the Day of Resurrection.
Numerous authentic a hadith also establishes the Resurrection. Among them is the hadith in which the Prophet (PBUH) said: “یجْمَعُ الله النَّاس یوْمَ الْقِیامَةِ فِی صَعِیدٍ وَاحِدٍ، ثُمَّ یطْلُعُ عَلَیهِمْ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِینَ، ثُمَّ یقَالُ: أَلَا یتَّبِعُ الناس مَا كَانُوا یعْبُدُونَ؟ [5] Translation: “Allah will gather all people on the Day of Resurrection on a vast plain. Then the Lord of the Worlds will appear to them, and it will be said: ‘Let every people follow what they used to worship.’ Then the worshipper of the cross will see his cross, the worshipper of fire will see his fire, and the worshipper of idols will see their idols.”
This hadith makes clear that all people will be gathered, questioned, and judged based on their worldly deeds.
-
Rational Evidence for the Resurrection
-
The Resurrection is not rationally impossible. Once a truthful and infallible messenger such as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) informs us of it, believing in it becomes necessary.
-
A child may only lift a weight of two kilograms, while his father can lift twenty. What is difficult or impossible for one being may be easy for another—likewise, resurrecting the dead may be difficult for humans but is easy for Allah.
-
For created beings, repeating a task is easier than initiating it. But for Allah, creating and recreating are equal. Allah says:
[6] Translation: “As We began the first creation, we shall repeat it. That is a promise binding upon Us; indeed, we will do it.”
-
The One who created the heavens and the earth will surely not find it difficult to recreate human beings. Just as sewing a simple shirt is easier for a tailor than crafting an elaborate robe, likewise resurrection is effortless for Allah.
-
All creatures fulfill their purpose in the world—except humans, who often neglect their duty of worship and justice. Therefore, justice requires a Day of Reckoning where the righteous are rewarded and the wicked are punished. Allah says:
-
Examination of the Objections Raised by the Deniers of the Resurrection
Allah refutes the objections of the deniers of the Hereafter through logical arguments, vivid examples, and reminders of His absolute power.
[9] translation: “Does man not see that We created him from a drop of fluid, yet he becomes an open adversary? And he strikes for Us a parable and forgets his own creation, saying: Who will give life to the bones when they are decayed? Say: He who created them the first time will give them life; and He is Knowing of all creation… Exalted is He in Whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to Him you will be returned.”
