The Quran: A Miracle Beyond Time- A Study of Its Miraculous Nature (part 74)
Beauty and Divine Signs in the Spring Season
When a person looks at nature in spring, they see the amazing beauty of the earth: trees full of blossoms and fruit, and land covered with green plants and flowers. This scene of nature shows the signs of God, as He says: “وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخرَجنَا بِهِۦ نَبَاتَ كُلِّ شَیءٍ فَأَخرَجنَا مِنهُ خَضِراً نُّخرِجُ مِنهُ حَبّاً مُّتَرَاكِباً وَمِنَ ٱلنَّخلِ مِن طَلعِهَا قِنوَانٌ دَانِیَةٌ وَجَنَّٰتٍ مِّن أَعنَابٍ وَٱلزَّیتُونَ وَٱلرُّمَّانَ مُشتَبِهاً وَغَیرَ مُتَشَٰبِهٍۗ ٱنظُرُوا إِلَىٰ ثَمَرِهِۦۤ إِذَا أَثمَرَ وَیَنعِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَٰلِكُم لَآیَٰتٍ لِّقَومٍ یُؤمِنُونَ” Translation: “And He is the One who sends down water from the sky. With it We bring forth all kinds of plants. From them We bring out green growth, and from it We produce grains placed close together. From the palm tree, from its blossoms, come hanging clusters of dates, and gardens of grapes, olives, and pomegranates—some similar and some different. Look at their fruits when they appear and when they ripen. Surely in this are signs for people who believe.” [1]
These verses invite people to think about the greatness of creation and the wonderful order of nature. Every new plant, every blossom, and every fresh leaf shows the knowledge and power of the Creator.
The Secret of Life and Plant Nutrition
God has equipped trees and plants with “green leaves” that work like amazing factories. Each green leaf can produce more than twenty organic compounds every minute, using sunlight, water, minerals, and carbon dioxide from the air. This process is known as photosynthesis. It is the foundation of plant growth, and without it, no plant could live or produce fruit.
That is why the Holy Quran says: “ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلأَخضَرِ نَاراً فَإِذَا أَنتُم مِّنهُ تُوقِدُونَ” Translation: “He is the One who made fire for you from the green tree, and from it you kindle fire.” [2]
This verse points to the same great factory inside the leaves. Without the work of leaves, no tree could exist and no wood or fuel would be produced. This verse is an example of the scientific miracle of the Quran in explaining natural processes.
Photosynthesis and Energy Conversion
Inside leaves, there is a substance called chlorophyll. When sunlight reaches it, chemical reactions take place, and water molecules are broken into hydrogen and oxygen. This process not only makes food for plants, but also provides the oxygen needed for human and animal life.
Scientific data shows that all the green plants on Earth can change about one hundred billion tons of carbon into food each year and produce one hundred billion tons of oxygen. The energy of this process is about ten times greater than all the energy used by humans worldwide. So, each leaf is a huge factory that humans can hardly fully imagine.
Seeds and Their Variety
God has made seeds the basis of plant life. Each seed contains a living being that can grow into a complete plant. Seeds differ in size, shape, and the way they spread:
-
Some seeds are very small and full of energy, like Indian barley, where one gram contains more than seventy thousand seeds.
-
Some seeds have wings and can travel long distances by wind.
-
Some have light fibers or hairs and move shorter distances.
-
Some seeds have strong shells that resist water and are carried by floods and rivers.
-
Some seeds have hooks or sticky material that attach to animals and birds.
-
Some seeds burst open in special conditions and spread themselves.
This great variety shows the endless wisdom and knowledge of God, who designed seeds for different environments and conditions.
Root Systems and Adaptation to Dry Areas
In dry regions, some plants have deep roots that go more than seventeen meters into the soil to reach water. Some plants can even collect moisture from the air through fine hairs on their leaves. This careful design shows that plants are created according to the needs of their environment, without any human involvement.

This table shows that each leaf is a huge biological factory that produces far more energy than humans consume.
It also shows that plants are perfectly adapted to their environment, and such harmony could not exist without divine design.

In Conclusion:
-
Green leaves are amazing factories that produce food and oxygen, and without them, no plant could survive.
-
Seeds, with their structural diversity and dispersal mechanisms, are signs of the infinite wisdom and knowledge of God.
-
The root system and water-storing ability of plants are examples of precise adaptation to the environment and the power of the Creator.
-
Observing nature and the growth processes of plants invites humans to reflect on the greatness of creation and the signs of the Quran:
“ٱنظُرُوا إِلَىٰ ثَمَرِهِۦۤ إِذَا أَثمَرَ وَیَنعِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَٰلِكُم لَآیَٰتٍ لِّقَومٍ یُؤمِنُونَ.” [3] “Look at their fruits when they appear and when they ripen. Surely in this are signs for people who believe.” [4]
