The Importance and position of Marriage from the Perspective of Medicine (Part 6)
Benefits of Marital Relations from a Medical Perspective
    1. Strengthening the Immune System
Regular sexual relations can help strengthen the immune system. The increased secretion of specific hormones, such as endorphins and oxytocin, improves immune function and reduces the risk of illnesses.
    2. Reducing Stress and Anxiety
Engaging in sexual activity stimulates the release of calming hormones, which helps lower stress and anxiety levels. This not only improves mood but also positively impacts mental health. [1]
    3. Increasing Vitality and Energy
Sexual activity, as a form of physical exercise, can boost energy levels and overall vitality. This effect is linked to improved blood circulation and increased physical activity.
    4. Strengthening Emotional Bonds
Sexual relations enhance the emotional connection between spouses. This emotional bond contributes to better family and social relationships, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support. [2]
    5. Improving Sleep Quality
Many individuals experience greater relaxation after sexual activity, which can lead to improved sleep quality. Better sleep, in turn, has positive effects on both physical and mental health. [3]
    6. Enhancing Mood
From a medical perspective, marriage serves as a means to strengthen morale, increase mental balance, and promote inner peace. Cooperation and harmony with a life partner contribute to mood improvement and life balance.
    7. Maintaining Physical Health
Marriage can act as a safeguard for physical health. A marital lifestyle provides favorable conditions for maintaining bodily health and combating certain diseases.
    8. Societal Development
Marriage plays a significant role in societal development. Establishing stable families, striving to raise healthy children, and creating an environment conducive to growth positively impact community well-being.
    9. Human Connection
Marriage serves as the foundation for human relationships and empathy within families. Emphasis on mutual respect, trust, and support strengthens interpersonal bonds in shared life. [4]
    10. Psychological Benefits
Marriage and the establishment of a family provide a foundation for mental health, satisfaction, and stability. Close and strong relationships with a spouse instill a sense of security and self-confidence, which is crucial psychologically.
    11. Social Benefits
Forming a family and establishing effective social connections are essential aspects of marriage. This promotes social interactions, enhances individual relationships, and increases cohesion within the community.
A strong family structure also reduces the likelihood of crime and delinquency. When families are stable and young people marry at an appropriate age, attachment to a warm family environment can significantly decrease corruption, vagrancy, lawlessness, rebellion, murder, theft, crime, insecurity, sexual assault, deviance, addiction, and suicide. Statistics show that many of these problems arise among individuals deprived of a supportive family environment.
A field study of 500 young people in England revealed that individuals who marry and form families are less likely to commit crimes. Conversely, unmarried individuals tend to engage more in delinquency and social misconduct, creating conditions for disruptive behavior.
Therefore, marriage has extensive societal effects, including strengthening the family unit, creating social stability, supporting economic and social foundations, and even mitigating demographic concerns. [5]
    1. Child Rearing
Marriage and family formation give individuals the opportunity to experience raising and nurturing the younger generation. Caring for children and imparting ethical and cultural values are among the essential responsibilities of parents.
Considering these points, it can be concluded that, from a medical perspective, marriage is not merely a sexual relationship but a comprehensive concept with significant effects on individual physical and mental health, social connections, and child-rearing.
It provides a fundamental basis for maintaining personal health, developing society, and fostering proper human relationships.
Overall, marriage is a holistic concept with wide-ranging benefits for both individuals and society. [6]
