Economy and Its Role in Islam (Part Five)
Losses of Leaving Work on Islamic Economy
    d. The Weakness and Inability of the Muslim Economy
An important and significant factor contributing to the weakness of the Muslim economy is the abandonment of work, which we shall examine from two angles:
First: The closure of Muslim production and activities means that individuals are left to cover their living expenses, such as medical and social costs, without any income or production. This consumerist behavior burdens the nation’s economy.
Second: The outflow of cash wealth from Islamic countries occurs in various ways. In Arab countries, many workers are non-Muslims, and significant amounts of wealth are transferred from these countries to non-Islamic nations. Furthermore, some countries exploit the charities and natural resources of Islamic countries under various pretexts, resulting in a substantial failure for the Muslim economy.
This situation reflects the general challenges faced by Muslims. However, when examined on a specific and case-by-case basis, the productive capacity of Muslim workers often pales in comparison to that of non-Muslim workers. This issue has arisen due to various effective factors and conditions that persist.
    e. Physical Weakness and Spiritual Degeneration of Muslims
The human body needs activity to grow and strengthen, and the best way to achieve this is through work. Work allows individuals to exert themselves and strengthen all parts of their bodies. This strengthening process can occur spontaneously, voluntarily, or involuntarily; without activity, it is impossible to develop physical strength.
Strengthening the body is crucial for Muslims to maintain good health, ensure proper functioning of their intellect and thoughts, and effectively face life’s challenges. It also equips them with the necessary abilities to confront the enemies of Islam. If Muslims cease their activities and efforts to strengthen and empower their bodies, their economy will decline, progress will be hindered, and their vulnerability to enemies, as well as the risk of diseases and problems, will increase.
Additionally, the negative effects of this situation manifest mentally and spiritually, resulting in a bitter life experience. If Muslims do not prevent their spirituality from collapsing, they will face numerous issues and will be unable to enjoy the joys of life. Ultimately, self-defeat and surrender become evident within Islamic society, as today’s realities illustrate.
