Da’wah’s Necessity and Method in the Modern World (Part 3)
The Principles of Da’wah (Invitation)
Therefore, we must first familiarize ourselves with the principles of da’wah and then proceed to the act of da’wah. The Holy Qur’an and the hadiths of the Prophet, peace be upon him, are the best guides in this field, including:
Translation: “Say, this is my way, that I call (people) to Allah with awareness and vision, and my followers (are like that), and I consider Allah to be perfect (from defects and other unworthy things), and I’m not one of the idolaters. (And I don’t associate anyone or anything with Allah).”
It becomes clear that the Prophet, peace be upon him, called people to pure monotheism with knowledge and insight. Therefore, he made it the duty of himself and the Ummah to call to Allah. Those who do not consider the Da’wah in their lives and do not invest their time, money, and lives in the cause of the call have not been perfect followers of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
Translation: “O Prophet! Call the people to the path of your Lord with firm and appropriate words and good and beautiful instructions and talk to them in the best possible way.”
In this verse, Almighty Allah introduces three methods of calling to Allah:
1. compatible or connected with wisdom.
2. continuous with preaching.
3. Controversy in the best way.
The meaning of wisdom is to provide clear reasons and strong and wise arguments so that the class who have a scientific taste can be attracted by this method.
“Good preaching” consists of effective and pitiful advice that is filled with the truth of gentleness and compassion; An advice that is full of sympathy, compassion and good manners, a sermon that revives stone hearts and dead hearts and gives hope to the hopeless and moves people.
Arguing effectively is with those who don’t seek to understand and find the truth; Rather, they enter the field with a few logical terms and with philosophizing and sophistry, and they are people of debate and controversy who don’t want to be convinced.
Therefore, the ways of invitation in the mentioned verse are in different ways; Because the minds and thoughts and levels of people are different from each other and each one should be invited according to his temperament. All this emphasis shows the importance of this issue.
Translation: “There must be a group from among you who call to good and enjoin what is good and forbid what is bad, and they themselves will be saved.” This isn’t specific to a specific time and place. «یدعون» “They call” is a present participle and listens to the ummah that the call must always continue and abandoning the call is synonymous with disintegrating the unity and solidarity of Muslims, and the call is the reason for the life of the ummah.
Translation: “You are the best nation created for the benefit of mankind, as long as you enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil and believe in Allah.”
This ummah is the best of ummahs; Not in terms of industry and technology, invention, agriculture, science or height and appearance, but because it benefits people, and the greatest benefit to humanity is to save them from eternal hell and lead them to paradise. strengthen their relationship with the Creator, and this is evident in the story of Rabi bin Amer, when Rostam asks him: “Who sent you?” He answers: «الله ابتعثنا لنخرجکم من عبادة العباد إلى عبادة الله وحده، ومن ضیق الدنیا إلى سعتها ومن جور الأدیان إلى عدل الإسلام
Translation: “Allah has sent us to you to guide you from the worship of creatures to the worship of the One Allah, from the narrowness of the world to its wideness, and from the oppression of false religions to the justice of Islam.”
There are so many hadiths about this that mentioning all of them will become an independent book; We will limit ourselves to a few important hadiths here:
Translation: “Hazrat Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates from the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, that whenever my Ummah considers the world to be great, the greatness and awe of Islam will disappear from its heart, and whenever it abandons enjoining good and forbidding evil, it will be deprived of the blessings of the Qur’an. It is possible, and if they slander each other, it will fall from the sight of Allah.”
Translation: Sayyida Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, entered the room. I realized that something had happened, then they performed ablution, and without speaking to anyone, He went to the mosque. I leaned into the room to listen to him. That Prophet, peace be upon him, sat on the pulpit; and said: O people! Allah says to you: Enjoin good and forbid evil before you pray and I don’t answer, ask me and I don’t give, and ask me for help, I don’t help you. He said enough and got down from the pulpit.
Yes, nowadays bringing true Muslims and inviting the world to Islam is one of the most important responsibilities of Muslims. In this context, we should work hard in such a way that we sacrifice day and night, sleep and rest, property, life and time for the spread of Islam.
