    Islam in Honduras
This country is located in Central America, next to the Gulfs of Honduras and Fonseca and the Caribbean Sea, and in the neighborhood of Guatemala in the west, El Salvador in the southwest, and Nicaragua in the east and south.
Before the arrival of the Europeans to the American continent, Honduras was the center of the great and glorious Mayan civilization, which was suddenly destroyed for an unknown reason. In 1502, Honduras was annexed by the Spanish Empire. In 1812, Honduras became independent from Spain and became a part of Mexico, and together with other countries in the region, formed the Federation of Central Countries. Honduras became fully independent in 1838 with the government of the Republic.
90 percent of the people of this country are red and white and the rest are red, black and white and their hybrids. Most of the people in this country are Catholic.
The official language of Honduras is Spanish, and English is also widely spoken.
A few also speak Indian languages.
According to the statistics of 2012, the population of this country is about eight million people.
No information is available on the number of Muslims in this country.
According to the statistics provided by the San Pedro Sula Mosque, the population of Muslim people in this area was about 11 thousand people.
For many years, Honduras was the only Latin American country without a mosque.
Currently, this country has only 2 mosques, one of which is located in San Pedro Sula and a smaller mosque in the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa.
In the meantime, Muslims who live in cities and areas without mosques in Honduras have to travel a long way to worship and participate in Friday prayers.
After the migration of Arabs to Honduras, the Muslim population of this country increased.
The migration of Arabs to this region took place in three stages.
The migration of Arabs first between 1895 and 1915 due to crises in the Ottoman Empire, then between 1925 and 1940 and during the First World War and finally between 1950 and 1970 due to the ease of issuing visas to Honduras took place.
Although the Honduran constitution supports religious freedom, the country’s government recognizes only the Catholic Church, and other religious groups are known as religious associations and have fewer rights and privileges.
In fact, Islam is now recognized as one of the religious minorities in Honduras, and the number of Muslims in the new research reaches 300,000-500,000 people.
Although this statistic is not very significant, it is very optimistic. Because the number of Muslim Arabs who immigrated to this country at the beginning did not exceed hundreds of people, and it turns out that these Muslims were able to spread the message of Islam well in Honduras.
Honduran Muslims now have three temporary centers to perform their religious practices collectively, which are located in the capital and other cities of the country.
Recently, an Islamic organization has been launched in this country and it plans to launch the first Islamic center in the country, which includes a mosque, school, university, library and conference halls, in Tegucigalpa, the capital.
This organization plays an important role in popularizing Islam and spreading the principles of this school and has started effective cooperation with Islamic organizations in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua, so that the Muslims of these countries can promote and spread the message of Islam in their country as much as possible. Seek benefit and also that a powerful Islamic Council is created in this way in the Central American region.
And based on this spirit, Honduran Muslims have also established a charity fund among themselves, which takes care of collective and organizational affairs from the income of this fund.
Despite the fact that Muslims are a very limited minority in this country, they have played a role in many cases and have distinguished themselves as a practical pillar in the society with the support of their inner unity.
